Just tried to render a workprint for an edit I'm working on. After 6 hours of rendering it failed at 99%.

gdism.

A reminder of why it's worthwhile to close all porn windows before rendering.

Even the one I'm watching during the render? What the hell am I supposed to do with my hands while I'm waiting?

Over the last... two to three days, my DVD-recorder/VCR, Playstation 3, and headphones ceased to function. Am I becoming a walking EMP? Or are they simply fed up with my choice in movies lately? Jason Takes Manhattan isn't that bad, is it?

Maybe Jason killed them? :D

Seriously though, that sucks man.

Thanks for your sympathy. The plot thickens. The DVD-recorder, despite showing absolutely no signs of life for days, powered back on today. Maybe it is Jason!

Glad to hear that your DVD recorder is back up and running. Have you tried out the others as well?

Yeah, no such luck with the others. Very peculiar.

My PS3 stopped working about a year and a half ago, it wouldn't read the discs and then they'd get jammed inside. I spent a fortnight casually browsing round the shops and the net for the best prices on a new one. But he morning of the day when I was finally going to go spend hundreds on a new one, it started working again and has been fine ever since?!!? So I'd just keep praying on that one and the same miracle might happen ;-).

Sony'll be servicing it. For a fee, of course. Hmph. Still should be cheaper than a fresh unit, I guess. Getting a new one isn't really an option for me anyway - it's a Backwards Compatible model. They don't make those anymore.

You know that feeling where you spend all day preparing your source for an edit; ripping, converting to a lossless format, converting the framerate, stretching the sound etc etc

and then the second it's ready, you accidently delete it along with all the intermediate files and even the original DVD rip so you have to start all over again from scratch...

well, at least you're getting plenty of practice (?).

I just accidentally wiped everything from my edit drive... FML

Drive with all your ITW projects on, or drive with downloads of other peoples edits on? Both are bad but the second less so.

Always, before I've ever wiped HDs, I physically disconnect all other drives from the system, so I can't make that mistake. But hindsight isn't much comfort :(.

not other people's edits (I burn those to disc, and wouldn't cry too much over losing since many are online). It's all my ITW projects, including some effects work I had been tinkering with for other people.

I'm trying to salvage the 1s and 0s now. sigh.

My sympathy. Hope nothing's been overwritten just yet. Marked for deletion doesn't automatically mean it's gone for good. Best of luck.

:(

I keep meaning to make a "backup your work" thread and bump it every so often to remind people.

Master hoojib, I feel your pain.

I'm in the middle of clearing up HDD space to back up my edits. Throw's predicament has scared the crap out of me, accelerating my progress.

From what he's been telling me, it looks like he may have recovered a fair portion of it. Fingers crossed.
