I would like to see somebody do Game of Thrones - for kids.
I tried watching the first episode and there was too much sex, violence and just nastiness. There's something about how that series presents things that just makes me feel deeply uncomfortable and in some cases a little traumatised.

There is a very clear disclaimer in the beginning...but I was even shocked the first time I watched episode one of the first season. I gave Season One to my partner as a holiday gift thinking that she would like it because I was told so many great things about it (I had not seen it yet). She gave it back the next day. "I definitely don't want this. Please do not watch this when you are with me. I almost threw it out, but decided to give you the option of keeping it. This is some of the worst garbage that I have seen that aired on television. Only trumped by the completely awful American Horror Story." And that was that. GOT is indeed very graphic and over the top in many ways but there is something magical about it that is certainly not present in many other similar shows. It's not for everyone. And American Horror Story...it's not either and there is nothing redeeming about that mess.

If we’re talking about our own edits I wish I could get ahold of Goldeneye with surround sound allowing me to remove the music and replace it with the game’s stellar soundtrack. I also wish I would get off my ass and start LOTR The Episodic Series but I guess I’m just waiting until after my Clone Wars edit is done and shipped.

If we’re talking about from other people then it’s kinds hard to say because the best fan edits are the ones that you don’t expect but make perfect sense in hindsight.

EDIT: Actually I would love to see someone do my idea of a Matrix tv series (preferably using my intro I made 👀)

I'd like to see more FanFixes of films that are already good/great and just need a bit of a trim or a few scenes moved around (as opposed to "turd polishing" which dominates fanediting).
I totally know what you mean but when a movie is already good I have a sort of desire to always watch them in the way the artist intended because that’s how it’s meant to be seen, whereas when there really is big room for improvement I feel the need the watch the edited version kind of… because I feel like it’s how it’s meant to be seen? It’s odd I don’t really know why I think like that lol

You’re probably joking but I would genuinely like an edit of Game of Thrones with less sex and nudity since I’m interested in the high fantasy and story and not the soft core porn that the series is known for. But also so I can watch it with my parents.

So you are a self proclaimed Turd Polisher in the making?
Actually funny you say that because I don’t think I have done any turd polishing with the small amount of edits I’ve done. The closest thing is my clone wars edit which fixes the atrocious breakneck pacing of the series and turns it into a movie. I bet that’s a first. A TV-to-movie edit that has slower pacing than the show it’s based on.

Good luck with your edit getting approved. Be sure and respond to your reviewer quickly when they offer feedback.

Game of Thrones - Censored Version

Game of Thrones - Censored Version
censorship on it's own isn't enough for me. It's not blood and guts that bothers me, it's more the way they present things. I mean I can't watch Braveheart because of how suggestive it is when it comes to his death. On the other hand, I'm fine with Kill Bill, evil dead, resident evil or anything like that.

I hear you on that. I saw someone else attempting this and other films like Deadpool, but they basically cut the video (black screens) during violent shots and then dropped audio out completely. I thought Id try to create a more seamless approach but when I started up the first episode it just felt dark and gritty, like what I think you're implying. The Game, The Book of Eli, Bladerunner and Fallen are about as dark as I usually will go for creating an amended cut of a movie. I know that such edits aren't received well by many, but they are certainly the most difficult edits I've created. Attempting to create seamless dialogue when omitting things is extremely hard. I'd put it right behind soundtrack replacement.

People have made fan edits of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies. It would be amazing if someone could make an edit of these movies similar to the Adywan’s Star Wars revisited to give them a more modern look and flare.

In fact, one could use some footage from the more recent Man of Steel movie. I am [slowly] learning about editing. Perhaps one day when I have the proper skills I will do it myself.

I tried to watch Captain America last night, yikes that film is boring. Initially I think it's a 3 act structure, but then it isn't really, it's more like 5. it feels way too long, and disconnected for me and i find it very difficult to follow the story. I also think there's something up with the sound or the written dialogue, as I find myself just switching off... whereas with many films I can be working on something and the film just grabs my attention. I'm not sure why.
I'd like to see an edit of that from someone who sympathises with my position. The edits that already exist don't seem to acknowledge whatever issues I have with it.

^ I agree it's one of the weaker MCU entries. Pre-serum Steve is underdeveloped - the script isn't imaginative enough to wonder if there's a dark side to his hunger to be a fighter/soldier specifically, rather than a similarly important sailor or merchant mariner. In order to keep him an innocent, his relationship with Peggy is kept to a tentative minimum. Red Skull is a flat, one-dimensional villain, and there's not much momentum to his ascent over HYDRA. I wouldn't call it a five-act movie so much as a two-act one - it's got a first act and a climax, but not much in between. Ergo, I don't think there's much that a fan edit could do to improve it.

I get that.
What I refer to though is...
  1. Steve struggles to join army
  2. Steve has to become a jester
  3. Steve tries to rescue bucky
  4. Steve has to go do something to do with a train in snow
  5. Steve has to go fight hydra for some reason.
These feel like acts to me, but I believe it may be possible to combine some of them so they don't feel so separated?

There's been more than one discussion on this forum about similar things, and I find myself going back and forth on the subject. On the one hand, I find most content like what you described in most productions to be gratuitous and put in there for cynical marketing reasons rather than artistic merit. Even if I really enjoy a production overall, I often wish that certain scenes had been excluded. On the other hand, movies such as Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan feel like not one second should be cut. The point is historical portrait, and we must remember what others have gone through to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.

...And then I got married, and found out that my wife was traumatized by Saving Private Ryan precisely because she knew people who had been through that war, or other wars. And I heard of servicemen and women for whom the movie triggers PTSD. So who am I to say what should or shouldn't be cut?

As for GoT, I never made it past the pre-opening credits scene. There's something tonally about it that doesn't sit right with me at all. (And that's not a dig at anyone else; I have close friends whose opinion I deeply value that tell me it's the greatest TV show of all time.)

Of course I don't want to prevent anyone from having access to the originals (and I'm sure you don't either), but I'm favor of edits that make the content more bearable, like network TV edits or the old-school Disney Channel edits that would sometimes result in genuinely unique cuts, like for The Goonies. For instance, DigModification is working on a version of Raiders of the Lost Ark for his little ones, and I think that's fantastic!

My take on what a film with more than three acts looks like would be something like Raiders of the Lost Ark, where everything starts to feel like a ping pong ball match. (Indy has the Ark, the Nazis get the Ark, Indy gets the Ark again, the Nazis get the Ark again, etc.)

It's been a long time since I last saw the first Captain America movie, so I'm not familiar with how it was structured, but from what I remember, the film was a very basic origins story, and its main purpose was pretty much to explain how Captain America became Captain America. Not exactly a new formula, but it was very straightforward in that regard.

My biggest goal is to create an edit of each & every Godzilla film as well as every shared universe film such as Mothra, Rodan, ect.
I've loved the Big G for over 40 years. He is my spirit animal. Thread will drop in 2023.
