A Game of Thrones (SPOILER EDITION)

thunderclap said:
The series is a little slow, but it seems like most of HBO's stuff is. (I think I've mentioned that here before.) They focus on the drama, not so much the action, which is fine. Story is what matters to me.

And the ending... man... didn't see it coming, and it made for a very restless night. I was blown away that they did that. I seriously want something bad to happen that snot-nosed ki(d)ng.

I think they can catapult the ratings if they ever make an episode with this:

THIS WEEK! WATCH
THAT STUPID BRAT
GETTING WHAT HE DESERVES!
WATCH THE KID NOBODY LIKES FINALLY PAY FOR WHAT HE DID TO BOROMIR

Damn poor Sean Bean, when he's corrupt he dies, when he is noble he dies - he only survives when he is carving a wooden horse...

Anyway brilliantly played by the marketing, putting bean everywhere, having him as the best paid and first star to be credidet - i doubt anyone who hasn't read the book saw that coming
i saw a thread on imdb the week before "so who's ready for ned's decapitation" but i was just thinking it was a guy joking around... I am pretty sure this will give Game of Thrones a little boost, after all a startling set up like this and controversy always draws the spotlight to something. There are people outraged about this, but I am pretty sure that most will continue watching as this series is just damn good

I'm not sure it needs a boost. From what I have gathered it is one of the most popular shows out there right now.

I haven't read the books but from what I hear Ned won't be the last major character to die. Call me crazy, but I always love a writer who isn't afraid to kill off his characters. Especially with a story like this.

I meant boost in terms of talk, people are amazed/outraged, they have created a nice controversy that will keep people talking about this episode and it is exactly one week before the final so maybe people who hear about this and were on the edge if they should watch it might give it finally a try

I don't know how the book ends and if it ends climatically but I hope they manage to pull of a real punch for the finale - have I mentioned that I love that show? Finally my post-Lost therapy has started to kick in

The end of the first book does indeed end on a huge note. Several good sized ones, and a huge one to finish.

On a side note, I've had the opening music stuck in my head the last few days.

so is it more of a lost-like cliffhanger where you MUST watch the next episode asap or a cliffhanger where you are still content with the story, feel that it got a little wrapped up but look forward to the next storylines?

I guess we'll know in a day. :)

I'd say more of the latter... semi-spoiler below.

It's something that changes the balance of power of the whole world, but only a few people know about it. So it takes time for the consequences to develop. Actually, we don't know yet where George Martin has taken the consequences. We'll find out some things in A Dance With Dragons, but I'm guessing events will play out differently than one would expect.

3 good sized ones? :)

Yeah, it's great. Same guy who did the Prison Break theme, right?

Bronn is really great, and just as funny in the show as in the books. Shae isn't physically at all as I had imagined her, but I really like the chemistry between her and Thyrion so far.

3 sounds about right.

And Sunarep, I think its more along the lines of the cliffhanger than things being wrapped up. There is some sense that this first Chapter is somewhat wrapped up, but it also has a definite cliffhanger feel to it, and everything sets up what will happen in the future. There's definitely a sense at the end of the first book that things are about to get bigger.

Allright season 1 over and of course spoiler alert:

While it was a good episode it didn't really feel particularly different than the others which might be a good thing but I prefer my season finales to up the ante

Killing another main character came again as a surprise and boy does that women re-define "making a deal with the devil"
For a season finale there was too much talking around the important stuff instead off getting the plot more along

Standouts:
Storyline with King Bratticus the first and his bitchslapped princess - i mean how cruel can you be? I hated that girl at first but wow do I pity her, it's like she has woken up from her fairytale and realized she is a prisoner/rape-victim the way he talked to her about "when I will be able to make children".... seriously
On the same note I am amazed that the writing is not manipulative. Characters like Bratticus are usually very tricky and the audience can role their eyes "allright we get it you turn him into a stereotype" but not here - probably due to the actor as well

Dinklage - goes without saying but still

Arya's transformation into Mulan, wow that kid got spirit when she attack that fat kid, especially when she is faking to be scared i was like "why doesn't she attack" until i realized her cunning deception

The first use of the pornoshot for a storyreason - meaning the end, it was really the first scene (minus sex scenes that are plot relevant) where the obligatory demographic booby shot fit with the story

What didn't really work for me:

Old man annoying us with monolog - I don't care if he turns into an important character later or anything I don't know, you just don't put a scene like this after the 30 minute mark... it was a pointless babbling with the payoff that he is faking being weak... the entire thing also gets accomplished in the scene where he puts on the cloak and since his actions weren't important for this specific episode (i am pretty sure he will do something important later on) it just felt like the biggest filler yet

and littlefinger/monk's dialog - wow... really?
a scene where two characters mumble basically what we have already known for the last few episodes? Basically it was:

"hey zup?"
"zup?"
"you asshole?"
"yep, you?"
"yep"
"word"

again would have been passable during the season but not for a finale (again it had no payoff in this specific episode)

Semi-ok:
legolas getting chased by fat guy and a direction for the guard - not enough but yeah whaddaya want...

Anywho it was an ok finally but i am not hooked/addicted like I was last week
Then again I checked with my therapist and he said it's better to have it like this and not get that invested into a series again

i can't help... i mean snow looks so similar to orlando bloom and even his pronounciation... well let's say will turner.. that's the tone he mostly has

Just watched the final. Lots of hints of what to come in season 2. But only the tip of the iceberg, really. :)

I wasn't a fan of the Pycelle scene, or the subsequent LF/V scene either. Kind of killed momentum and wasn't really that revealing (at least of anything important). I also didn't care for how the episode was put together. I would have preferred they put the bigger story momentss back to back to back to back to end the episode instead of spreading some of them out over the episode. I feel momentum was lost this way as well.

It was interesting seeing some scenes from the 2nd book make it in (including one from very late in the 2nd book).

Slight spoiler, highlight to show invisible text.

Do you mean the whole Arya->Arry + meeting up with Gendry bit (can't remember if this is in the first book or not)? It's not that long ago I read the second book, but I still can't put my finger on what you mean.

I agree on the fact that putting the King Of The North speak later in the episode would have provided a stronger finish.

Well, the big one was the

Catelyn and Jaime conversation. It's towards the end of A Clash of Kings in the prisons of Riverrun.

Did the major plot points end the same way as the first book?
