A Game of Thrones (SPOILER EDITION)

I thought the same. If Baelish were up to something, I thought he would probably bide his time more. I didn't expect his actions at the end of episode 7. The series does a fair job of keeping you guessing -- if you haven't read the book, that is. For a while, I thought Snow might not actually end up taking his vows.

wow were we all surprised?
I really thought he was keen to getting rid of the bitch, but apparently he dislikes stark more
Thankfully there is the game of thrones wiki which updates as the series progresses so you can find spoiler free information about all the characters up to the current episode

oh side-overanalysis: little finger talking about reading books where the small ones win at the end... not sure if in a medieval times there were as many "weak farmboy fighting big knights" stories as there are today

I was unsure of how Robert would react when Stark woke up too. That was a good cliffhanger. I thought he would probably act the way he acted, but I was far from certain.

Oh... and I too find the nudity more gratuitous than anything else. There really isn't a need for it. But, then again, both HBO and Showtime throw a lot of nudity into their original programming for no real purpose. It's just the way they do things.

Yeah, It really doesn't need the nudity. Then maybe I could feel more comfortable watching it with my nephew. On the other hand, despite being fantasy, it is pretty adult themed. And, well... the women are hot. HBO and Showtime are focused on catering to an adult audience, which is their demographic and the people paying their bills. Maybe language, sex, and violence does sell to this demographic, but they had me at good storytelling.

if the obligatory nude-shot every episode is the only way to continue the series' run then yeah it's a necessary evil for a great story

On the subject of hot women, I am glad they recast Emilia Clark for Tamzin Merchant. Tamzin looks like a hot sorority girl I might pickup drunk at the bar one night. Emilia looks like a goddess whose love I might one day earn after conquering half of the known world in her honor.

The nudity is fine by me. So is the violence. Take a look at the pilot episode to Starz "Camelot". It's like porn with a fantasy theme and so sleazy I had to stop watching. Here it fits well into the context (Littlefinger does own several brothels after all). It's like Swearengen receiving a blow job while delivering a lengthy monologue in the brilliant HBO show, Deadwood. And that happened really often.

Deadwood ruled. What a shame the creator fizzled on it and never provided any closure to the show. I also liked the actor that played Swearengen in the show Kings, which was a great show that didn't even make it one season before being canceled. :( That was almost as depressing as Firefly.

another week another great episode and we finally get some movement
curiously this was the first time i enjoyed the conan parts more than the king's landing parts - I mean conan is just a fantastic villain

also finally the winter-people are returning (first time since episode 1) and holy hell what are they feeding those dogs?
Dinklage great as usual, not much to do for Boromir other than wait (let's hope that if he dies he dies with honour and not just get executed), also Arya's moment to shine... way to go childkiller!

Latest episode was awesome. Finally some payoff for 7 episodes of learning who the players are. :-D I finally caved and went to the HBO website and studied the map and guide to all the characters and houses.

well right now it is more or less working for me.. although I'll never understand how clemens became the leader of the lannisters... don't they know that he got drunk and prescribed the wrong dose of painkillers?

The direwolves are much smaller in the show than in the book.

Budget-willing, they will grow next season. I wonder if a film dog would still perform properly in a dog fat-suit. Might be cheaper than CG. Or they could put gollum sensors on a real dog and then cg over it.

are the wolves in any way important?
i mean what i know right now from the series is that they are the symbols, but do they really have an essential storyuse or are they just there to save the skin of their masters from time to time?

I noticed that whatever happened to the direwolves tended to be reflected in the fates of their masters.
So Sansa's wolf was killed, and after that she was a permanent captive and political pawn. Arya's wolf went feral, and Arya herself learned to survive and prevail in a brutal world, gradually losing her civilized identity.
You can always tell, when a Stark direwolf is unhappy, that something bad is about to happen. And a couple of the direwolves are more than symbols or guards.
Jon Snow has a limited warg ability, and by scouting through Ghost's eyes and ears he obtains important battle intelligence. Bran is a full fledged warg, and part of what makes his story interesting is that he prefers inhabiting his direwolf to his own body, and is in danger of losing his own life force to it.

I assume the spoilers are for the books so i won't look at them

so the direwolves are symbols and "soulmates" - well call me heretic but then I'd just leave them like wolves and don't go a million miles with cgi, they work right now pretty nice and unless they are super über important at the end I think the series I'd go with normal dogs/wolves for budget reasons. I might now have stated something extremely stupid since my knowledge of the series goes for just 8 episodes but I think if this series wants to go on (which i hope) there will have to be budget decisions like that

It was indeed great. Written by George R.R. Martin himself. I'm looking forward to seeing Thyrion Lannister in battle.

well wasn't quite that much battle this week ;)

Pretty slow episode even for the series's standards
Conan not really doing much but at least they shed some lights on something that I have wondered the whole time: does magic exist in this world. I am curious if it will turn into the standard fantasy magic or if it will remain more archaic like it is right now

Dinklage as usual saved a good deal of the episode - gosh his story was really well delivered

and the ending...

The series is a little slow, but it seems like most of HBO's stuff is. (I think I've mentioned that here before.) They focus on the drama, not so much the action, which is fine. Story is what matters to me.

And the ending... man... didn't see it coming, and it made for a very restless night. I was blown away that they did that. I seriously want something bad to happen that snot-nosed ki(d)ng.
