The 50,000 Movie Challenge

Excellent. Short films are optional for reviews.

I'm just curious, but is anyone else interested in attempting this? Or am I the only one stupid/crazy enough to try?

Not me, but the idea of giving a mini-review of every movie you watch sounds fun.

I won't be giving a mini review of every single movie I watch, just those that were approved by the MPAA. You know, to keep this on topic. :D

No. Yes.

These aren't new reviews, I just copied and pasted them from my Facebook page.

Legion (2009) - #?

November 6th, 2010

Just watched "Legion". Booooooring.

Daybreakers (2009) - #44213

Just watched Daybreakers. Starts off pretty good but then slows down for a while. The ending is pretty interesting though. More of a rental than a purchase in my opinion. But then again I'm not really a vampire fan. Much more into zombies.

The Expendables (2010) - #45175

Just watched The Expendables. As I expected, it sucked.

December 1st, 2010

Avatar (2009) - #45663

Finally gave in and decided to watch Avatar. I wish I hadn't. lol The first half hour or so is good but then they introduce the Na'Vi and the cgi gets way too distracting. I stick by my previous statement that it looks like a video game. Then there's all that hippie tree hugger bullshit that goes on forever.

Rambo (2008) - #42649

Finished my Rambo marathon. The last Rambo isn't as bad as I remember it. It's actually watchable. lol I think they may have edited the DVD though. I remember there being more over-the-top action, another flashback scene and at the very end Rambo gets off a bus before looking at his dad's mailbox and making his way down the hill. On the DVD though he's just standing there, no bus in sight, looks at the mailbox and starts walking down the hill. I may be wrong about the extra action and flashback scene, since I haven't seen it in 2 years, but I am positive he got off a bus at the very end. I guess I'll just have to see the unrated cut now.

Inception (2010) - #46101

Just finished watching Inception and I really don't get what all the hype was about. It's not that great a movie. In fact I found it just barely watchable. You were right Tammy, it's nothing but a Matrix rip-off with a better actor in the lead role. Now personally I hated The Matrix so that's probably why I hated Inception but who knows.

Gamer (2009) - #44947

Just watched Gamer. Heard it was really good but I have to disagree. It was nice to see Zoe Bell again though, albeit very briefly. If I want my "hunting humans" fix I'll stick to The Running Man or the more recent The Tournament.

Ponyo (2008) - #45429

Watching Ponyo. Another winner from Hayao Miyazaki.

March 12th, 2011

Hobo With A Shotgun (2011) - No number but thought I'd include it anyways.

Just watched Hobo With A Shotgun. Not as good as I was expecting. The two Tom Cruise from Risky Business looking rejects really ruined it for me with their overacting. They play two of the three main villains but are about as threatening as Tom Cruise himself. lol

Scream 4 (2011) - #46699

Went to see Scream 4 this afternoon. I only have two words for it. Boring and predictable. Seriously, what was Wes Craven thinking? They should have ended the series after part 2.

May 17th, 2011

Dumpster Baby (2000) - Clearly hasn't gone through the MPAA

I've seen movies that are bad, and I've seen movies that are so-bad-they're-good, but "Dumpster Baby" is just plain awful.

July 23rd, 2011

Stripperland (2011)

If you're wondering how a parody of Zombieland where all the zombies are strippers could possibly be bad, you clearly haven't seen "Stripperland". You think I'm kidding? Daniel Baldwin has a small part as a rapper called "Double D", and yes he actually raps in the movie. He puts on a concert on the side of the road for a bunch of zombie strippers.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011) - #46468

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes = Awesome!

August 15th, 2011

The Help (2011) - #46717

Went to see "The Help" this afternoon. Great film! Wouldn't be surprised to see it nominated when awards season comes around.

August 16th, 2011

Final Destination 5 (2011) - #46964

Just saw Final Destination 5. It wasn't bad, but I loved the ending. Fans of the series will definitely get a kick out of it.

August 17th, 2011

Bridesmaids (2011) - #46648

Just watched Bridesmaids and doesn't understand why everyone thought it was hilarious. As a movie it wasn't bad, but the only funny one in the whole thing was Melissa McCarthy. Kristen Wiig was her usual unfunny and annoying self.

September 8th, 2011

Spy Kids: All The Time In The World (2011) - #46924

Spy Kids 4 was surprisingly just as good as the previous films. Rare that you see that in a film series. No Carla Gugino, but Jessica Alba made up for it. And Alexa Vega, who plays Carmen Cortez in the series, sure got hot. Hubba-hubba! lol

The Next Three Days (2010) - #46350

The Next Three Days started off promising, but got boring less than an hour in. The movie is over 2 hours long, but probably shouldn't have been more than 90-100 minutes.

My Soul To Take (2010) - #45671

My Soul To Take felt like nothing more than Wes Craven trying to recreate A Nightmare On Elm Street, but with a real world killer instead. The Riverton Ripper is certainly no Freddy Krueger. He's got no flair, no charisma. He's just a sad excuse for a serial killer. There's even elements of Freddy Vs. Jason and Scream in the movie. Let's just hope that they don't turn this one into a franchise.

^There's a big difference between "The Help" and "The Expendables" Neg. "The Help" is a powerful and emotional film about an important time in America. The writing, directing, and acting are all top notch. "The Expendables" on the other hand is just a dumb movie with a bunch of action stars that were big in the 80's and 90's. The sole point of that movie, and you'll notice I'm calling it a movie and and not a film, was to get all these guys together so that we could watch them fight, shoot, and blow shit up. I'm all for being entertained with action movies, but I need a little more with my action movies than this. It's the action movie equivalent of a porn flick that features nothing but cumshots.

Now onto tonight's movies. First up I watched:

(500) Days Of Summer (2009) - #45018

Enjoyable enough romantic comedy but the constant going back and forth between days got annoying real quick. And what was up with Joseph Gordon-Levitt getting relationship advice from his 12-year-old sister? I mean seriously, did they think this was going to be cute or something? And why was Minka Kelly listed in the opening credits when she doesn't appear until the very last scene? She's got a very minor part, albeit perhaps semi-important in the grand scheme of things, but opening credits credit important? I don't think so.

Confessions Of A Shopaholic (2009) - #44816

Typically predictable, unrealistic chick flick. And when I say predictable, I mean predictable. The DVD cover features two blurbs, written by men, praising the film as really funny. Those men are either gay, women posing as men to get men to watch the film, or men paid to write something good about the film. I can't see any other reason why men would have anything good to say about this film. Don't serve me a bowl of shit and tell me it's a bowl of chocolate pudding, because I ain't buying that shit. Crap is crap, and this is crap on a grand scale.

*Notices negative review for Inception. Unsubsribes to thread.*

Added another 68 titles to my "seen" list. Am now sitting at 774 titles seen.

^That's just a year and a half's worth of movies for me. ;)

Rachel Getting Married (2008) - #44366

Rachel may have been getting married, but I was being bored to death. The only good thing about this movie is Anne Hathaway's performance.

I know that I said that I was going to start posting the list of movies I've seen that I need the numbers to, but my list is currently sitting at around 215. Although there's probably about a dozen or so that won't have numbers attached to them but I put them there just in case. Either way I don't know if it would be wise to post the entire list as it would probably take up several posts, and the list is continuously growing, so if anyone thinks they may be able to help let me know and I'll upload my .txt file and send it to you.

Or maybe I should start a help thread, where each letter gets its own post. That way the posts won't get lost in this thread, and I can update more easily.

I vote for one thread. As I said earlier in a PM, you could easily edit your first post in the thread as such:

EDIT -

Lists of Movies I Need Numbers To:

A-E
F-J
K-Q
R-U
V-Z

I'm totally buying a VZ grip.

Yeah, but who's going to go through a thread if they've already read everything up until now? Especially one with so many pages already that is constantly being posted in? It would be easy to forget about the posts in question, even if links to them are posted in the first post.

Maybe I should just post a handful of titles at a time. Titles that I know some of you might have and would be able to help out with. That way it's easier to get through them, for everyone involved.

I'll start off with these ones:

- Billy Madison
- Dazed And Confused
- Demolition Man
- Masters Of The Universe
- Naked Gun, The: From The Files Of Police Squad!
- Naked Gun 1/2, The: The Smell Of Fear

Added another 79 titles to my "seen" list and am now sitting at 853 titles viewed. Will try to reach 1000 by the end of tomorrow.

- Demolition Man: (hard to see, on the dvd so i may be off a bit) 32693
-Naked Gun, The: 29154
-Naked Gun, 2 1/2: 30973

EDIT: I checked my PAL disc of demolition man, the numbers above are correct.

You are awesome Rogue! Thanks a lot!

So people don't have to go back I'll list the two remaining from that list as well as a few more.

- Billy Madison
- Dazed And Confused
- Spy Hard
- Stripes
- WarGames
