Scream 4 Recut

Neglify said:
they would have had to have shot Scream 5 back to back.
No, they wouldn't. The way I see it, it's an "openly closed" ending, as it's obvious where that final revelation will lead.
Someone who knows the truth still exists, the killer is screwed.

Fine, how about this. I would have preferred if they had done the original ending and shot it back to back with Scream 5 so I wouldn't have to wait for Scream 5. Because with that ending I'd want to see more right away.

Just finished watching this and I have to say you did a great job Sean. I noticed a few of the cuts/additions, but for the most part I didn't. Did you have to do any color correcting to the deleted scenes, because they looked to match the film perfectly. And I loved the open-ended ending. I gave you a 10/10 rating.

Just a side note, if you don't mind me getting all nitpicky on you. I watched with the drinking game on, although I didn't partake , and noticed that you missed a lot of reference. The only ones you mentioned where the ones that were given by name, and even then you missed a few in one scene.

Here's what you missed:

- "Stab 5 by far the worst." is a reference to F13 pt.5, and possibly NOES pt.5.

- Dewey's ringtone is Axel Foley's theme from Beverly Hills Cop.

- "Couldn't this wait Barney Fife...?" is a reference to The Andy Griffith Show.

- Kirby and Jill watch Shaun Of The Dead (You've got this one listed but only when Kirby mentions the movie by name.)

- "Yes, she's Daniel Radcliffe to my J.K. Rowling." reference to Harry Potter.

- "I booked Today, The View, Nancy Grace, MTV News."

- Movie posters of The Hills Have Eyes (original), Feast, Stab, Zach & Miri Make A Porno, Dawn Of The Dead,
Halloween 2 (Rob Zombie), and The Thing (Carpenter) are seen on the walls of Cinema Club. A poster for
Vertigo, and one for The Green Mile, are seen on a window in Cinema Club.

- Robbie is wearing a Stab t-shirt at the Stab-a-thon.

- Stab is shown playing at the Stab-a-thon.

- "This party is all about the Stab movies, come on!"

- "Who played Leatherface first?" is a reference to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

- Charlie and Kirby watch Stab 7 at Kirby's.

- Kirby has posters for Rear Window and Nosferatu in her room.

- Ghostface: Warm up question, Jason's weapon?
Kirby: Uh? It's a machete.
Ghostface: Now you see, you do know the genre. Michael Myers?
Kirby: Butcher knife.
Ghostface: Leatherface?
Kirby: A chainsaw. Please!
Ghostface: Just ask Sydney if you need some help. Freddy Kruger?
Kirby: Uh, uh, razor hands.

These are references to the Friday The 13th, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Nightmare On Elm Street
franchises.

Thanks for the review FC! A 10/10. Wow! Awesome, man!

As for all the missed movie references, LOL dude. A lot of those I intentionally didn't add because I wanted to keep it to movies referenced only by name, but now I see I left out the "by name only" part in the rules. Fale.

But thank you man. (Also, not to mention the million subtle references to the original Scream trilogy. I considered making a rule to drink every time there is an homage to one of the first 3 Screams. But if I did that, along with the current rules, it would land anybody who played the drinking game in the hospital.)

Have downloaded this and am ready to roll

Yeah, I thought about mentioning the Scream references, but then I decided against it. To us they're references to the Scream movies, but in the Scre4m universe they're based on fact. Although there were one or two Scream references that could go either way.

Regarding the "By name only" rule you still left out:

- "I booked Today, The View, Nancy Grace, MTV News."

Those are all real shows. But like I said, I'm probably being a little too nitpicky.

No, that's a definite fail on my part.

Oh and I forgot to mention. No color correction was done on the deleted scenes. They went straight from the DVD to Vegas (via VDub). I was lucky because the deleted scenes are pretty damn good quality.

That's pretty awesome. I think that's the first time I've seen that where the deleted scenes matched the film, color-wise. Unfortunately they're still only releasing deleted/extended/alternate scenes with 2.0 audio. I think I've only seen one movie that had the deleted scene audio as 5.1. I don't know why they don't release them with 5.1 audio.

Had the chance of watching this tonight. Solid job.

It makes the film closer to being as good as the original in my books. Enjoyed the R2 audio additions to the R1. it helped. also loved the deleted scenes that were incorporated. it helped flesh out the story bit more.

9.5/10.

One of the things I enjoy most about Neglify's edits is that he always knows when to chop, when to add, and when to leave well enough alone. As the saying goes, just because you can doesn't mean you should. Rather than chop the film to pieces (sorry), he edits with restraint, allowing the better parts of the film to remain intact, and only the most cheesy, offensive, distracting elements are removed.

Technically, Neglify's edits are of a very high quality, and Scream 4 is another great example of that. The picture quality is excellent for a DVD release, and the editing is mostly seamless. The only cuts I noticed were during one of the deleted scenes, where the pitch of the background foley (waterfountain I think?) changed slightly between cuts. I assume Neglify used audio from the two different sources in this scene. Not a big deal, but slightly distracting. I also noticed the picture quality was slightly worse for these added scenes, but the content was nice and these were welcome additions to the movie. I also noticed a couple of minor lip sync issues in the deleted scenes only. The rest of the movie flowed really smoothly and without any technical issues.

As for the edits themselves, I really liked the choices made, especially those that brought the film closer to the shooting script (i.e., infused the movie with more subtlety). The best change imo is the ending. When I read that Neglify had made the ending more ambiguous/ending on a cliffhanger, I was worried there would be no resolution, or the film would suddenly cut as the killer was about to be revealed. Without giving away what Neglify actually achieves, I can say I was totally satisfied and felt the film ended exactly where it should.

Neglify, I totally agree - I want to see the Scream 5 that follows this film! Had the original team made this choice, it would have been a brave and impressive decision. Alas, Hollywood is not as intelligent as you are. Well done. 9/10

That's odd. I didn't notice any of the issues you mentioned, and I'm usually pretty quick to pick up on them. Especially the sync issue.

Interesting. Just my player perhaps? Regardless, it was very minor. I only mention it because I noticed the difference every time a deleted scene showed up, but they were worthy scenes and improved the movie.

Those tiny issues aside, this is a highly recommended edit. A great sequel to the original film. well done Neg!

As far as sync issues I know that in the deleted scene at the water fountain there is one or two lines I for the life of me couldn't fix perfectly. It's very minor (like njvc said) and IMO isn't too distracting.

And to answer your question, no I didn't use two audio sources for the deleted scenes. So if the water foley sounded weird then it's source. And I never noticed it.

But I'm glad you enjoyed it! :) Now I just have to get over my stupid fixed ideas and get to work on editing Screams 1-3.

Sweet dawg, glad you liked it. Thanks for the rating. :)

I finally figured out your attraction to this movie, Neg. Alison Brie is in it!
