I wanted to convey the emotional exhaustion from them both coming very, VERY close to dying. Lois was a fraction of a second from becoming street pizza, having to be rescued by Clark, and Clark ironically had to be rescued by Lois from a lunatic with a spear. That then creates a deeper bond between them in the face of that adversity.
