While the ultimate decision is of course out of my hands, ignoring the majority vote does make the whole poll seem like a bit of a farce.

I'd have to slightly disagree there Geoff - 15 'No', 10 'yes' and 4 shruggers.

It's a large minority and if the shruggers don't mind.....it's almost 50/50.

If it was more like 20 'no' and '5' yes - then that's a clear difference.

I voted Yes, as I'm not only curious, but am libertarian.

Well, why not have it hidden by default, and people have to specifically request access to it? Just so those who don't want it don't have to look at it in their list of boards every time they visit here.

I have to be honest, I'm not sure really.

I think things are workin very well as they are. It can be frustrating not talking about politics & not being able to swear, but hey, are we really that worse off for it?

I have always found this forum to be a polite, funny & cival place to be & I think that's because of the PG13 rules.

My main problem is having grown up in New Labour's Britain I'm sick to death of being told what to do, what to think & what to say. So if people want to discuss adult subjects like Politics, Sex & whatever I think they should be allowed to.

I don't think the porn thing would be much of an issue as I can't see many Porn Edits actually being made. It terms of 18+ threads, I mean most of the people here are men anyway & I'm sure we all agree tits are great. So do we need a thread to discuss tits even more than that  ?

But the Politics thing, well I can see that turning into a problem. Everyone here is opinionated, which is brilliant, but I can see tempers getting flared with a Politics thread.

How about a comprimise?

Why don't we post nude pics of Sarah Palin but not discuss them!!!

each member has to ensure that he/she is above the age of 18 (sorry blueyoda and killbillme, that kind of rules you out ;-)).
I don't know what hurts most: That you consider my wit as that of a 10 year old or that you lump me together with BlueYoda.
But I am glad to see you joking around. I guess the police dropped the rape charges? :p

Let's not split hairs.

What does that mean? I'm not insisting on a trivial distinction by saying the no vote won; and I don't see how counting the "don't care" vote with either side produces any kind of meaningful comparison. Don't care means don't care.

Next time I'd prefer an execuive decision from the outset. I shan't bother voting in any other polls. I have better ways of wasting my time. I''m sorry to sound petty, but that's just the way I see it.

The question is if FE forum needs an Special Adult Section?

As Uncanny stated, a quick look at what is on offer on FanEdit.org shows extreme violence, graphic gore, explicit torture, zombie suppers and cannibal excess. So what in fact do we need a Special Adults Section for? Surely these examples are adult enough?

So a Special Adult Section is for talk/pics about sex? (Me no like)

Or talk about sex in FanEdits? (Me like)

I feel this can be done, openly as I stated before, using present practices. When a controversial FanEdit comes along that maybe contains adult material, whatever 'adult material' might mean, we can all express our views on a case by case basis.

As for FatherMerrin, I understand, so depressing and I hope TB, now he has lost the European top job (that would have legally protected him against prosecution), will soon face charges of War Crimes and Corruption. I blame Thatcher!!!!

My remark about splitting hairs was not aimed at you, Cap. I share your stance.

That said, polls are not some kind of legally binding document. They merely show the opinions of those who bother to vote. Whether or not to act on the majority vote is up to the staff.

Captain, I think you express yourself very well and I have been struck by your perceptive posts. Unfortunately, this discussion can go on forever but the remit is that some are more adult than others.

My mistake, UA! I misinterpreted you. :)

Thank you, Mollo! I agree that the discussion has to end now.

By the way, I loved your Star Trek: Bugs edit! It is just the kind of light-hearted edit that I really appreciate. :D

And let me clarify on this a bit further: it will be non hardcore entirely. FE will never turn out to be a porn forum, not even related, not even partly, not secretly, not.
An adult section will be about discussing adult matters, about free speech, about sharing softcore images (if required) or talking about non pg13 violence.
It will be strict and clear subscribe and each member has to ensure that he/she is above the age of 18. The forum will be absolutely invisible to the rest of the members.
In that case, I'd like to change my "no" vote to a "yes". Thanks for the clarifications. :)

I would 'third' or carry the motion or whatever, but it hardly seems necessary seeing as Boon already said it'll happen. :)

nah, we are still discussing it. Sorry, if my previous post made it sound as if it was already inevitable. I think we are having a great discussion here and I find it very fascinating how differently such a subject can be seen.
My own opinion is that I don't care about having a hidden adult section, except that it has to be moderated to not get out of hand. I cannot see it having a major impact on the forum (which is to me still about fanedits and we are talkign here about an off topic section), but can see people having fun there with less limits.

Maybe we should just start it, give it a test period and see, where that takes us.

 It really did! :)

That sounds like the most sensible idea so far. I'd be in favour of a trial period - if only to see how the security is to work and how the section is to be moderated.

the test phase has now started. PM me if you want group access.

we now have 6 members.
