Top Ten Movies

Although I've already posted my top ten on this thread, I believe two and a half years is a sufficient indication of matured taste. In addition, I simply love lists! :) Anyways, here is my top... twenty five! A bit disappointed at there being only three foreign films listed here (the highest ranked at #2), but in my overall top 100 there is about 40 (primarily made up of Robert Bresson).

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
2. Andrei Rublev (1966)
3. Raging Bull (1980)
4. Mulholland Drive (2001)
5. Performance (1970)
6. Point Blank (1967)
7. Blue Velvet (1986)
8. Miami Vice (2006) - Yes I am completely serious. It is Mann's hypnotic rendition of L'Avventura (1960)
9. Excalibur (1981)
10. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
11. The Shining (1980)
12. Rio Bravo (1959)
13. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
14. Blade Runner (1982)
15. Citizen Kane (1941)
16. Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
17. The Searchers (1956)
18. Taxi Driver (1976)
19. Goodfellas (1990)
20. Barry Lyndon (1975)
21. Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1966)
22. Paths of Glory (1957)
23. A Touch of Zen (1970)
24. The Godfather: Part II (1974)
25. The Tree of Life (2011)

In no particular order whatsoever, and like BladeRunner391, this could change as I see more films:

  • Citizen Kane
  • Blade Runner Director's Cut (have yet to see other versions)
  • Once Upon a Time in the West
  • A Fistful of Dollars
  • Godfather Part II
  • Taxi Driver
  • 2001 A Space Odyssey
  • Shawshank Redemption
  • Superman The Movie
  • Le Samourai
  • C'est Arrivé Près de Chez Vous ('Man Bites Dog')
  • Raging Bull
  • Million Dollar Baby
  • Zodiac Director's Cut (I love the film and theme)
  • Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
  • Jurassic Park: The Lost World (I prefer it over the first one + read this)
  • The Fifth Element (one of my favourite unpretentious sci fi flicks)
  • Jaws

There you have it. Might be a completely different list one year from now. That's the fun of it :)

And reading everyone else's posts made me realize I still have all of these to watch...
  • Schindler’s List (never fully watched it, only parts on tv)
  • Close Encounters of the Third Kind (never fully watched it, only parts on tv)
  • Koyaanisqatsi
  • Dr. Strangelove (never fully watched it, only parts on dvd)
  • Solaris (either version)
  • Manchurian Candidate (either version)
  • Goodfellas
  • Casino
  • The Big Lebowski
  • When Harry Met Sally
  • Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
  • Empire of the Sun
  • It’s a Wonderful Life
  • Casablanca
  • The Maltese Falcon
  • The Andromeda Strain
  • 12 Angry Men

  • It’s a Wonderful Life

Order it right now from Amazon (Blu-Ray). No better time to see this uplifting Christmas suicide classic!

I would have to say that my favorites meaning I could watch them over and over and over again without ever being bored with them would be:

Shawshank Redemption
Return of the Living Dead
The Exorcist
The Road Warrior
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Black Hawk Down
Star Wars Original Trilogy
Predator
Monster Squad
Night of the Creeps
Jaws
Terminator 1 & 2
Big Trouble in Little China

I could make a huge list but those are my the ones of the top of my head.

^Great list :) Makes me want to revisit those immediately. Although I disagree on Black Hawk Down (rewatching over and over, I mean) :) It's a great film. The scene where that one guy is dragged out of the chopper and publicly executed by that mob was sickening.

Harry Potter
Furious 5,6,7
Inside out
Trainwreck
terminator 1,2
Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
The Searchers (1956)
Taxi Driver (1976)
Goodfellas (1990)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

Trainwreck? WTF? Taxi Driver and Trainwreck should not be anywhere near each other when listing "Top Movies".
