Top Ten Movies

Frantic Canadian said:
I can never make a Top Ten Movies list because I can't be that decisive about what to include. Does this film deserve to be in while this one doesn't? Why does this one rank one higher than that one. You know the drill. I will say with absolute certainty though that Goodfellas is my all-time favorite movie. Casino and The Goonies would also rank very high on my Top Ten Movies list if I were to make one.
^ Totally this.

All I can ever start with is

Blade Runner
Return of the King
The Shawshank Redemption

Those are in order. After that, I mean, I love Alien/s, Star Wars, Fight Club, Gladiator, 300 etc etc. But I mean, I love BASEKetball, so why shouldn't that be higher than Fight Club etc etc.

lol, good call Throw. Missed the #2 entry.

In alphabetical order:

12 Angry Men
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
The Day of the Jackal
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
The Godfather (I and II)
The Kite Runner
The Lord of the Rings (trilogy)
Once Upon a Time in the West
Spirited Away
Touch of Evil
What's Up Doc

Completely overlooked 12 Angry Men, whats wrong with me! That's easily in my top five. The perfect character study.

Edit: The 1957 version.

What can I say? I feel a, uh, personal connection to those two flicks. Not calling them the best ever, mind, just two of my favorites.

La dolce vita put me to sleep. Like really to sleep. I never finished it.
Watching a bunch of wealthy characters wasting time in the streets and taking drugs. Never understood this boring mess of a movie.
Even Woddy Allen's Match Point was not that boring. And that's saying a lot.

Ok, now, shoot me! :D
:laser::oops:
I can see that point of view, and I actually didn't much like it the first time around. But I gave it another shot, and I'm extremely glad I did. It's not just that I'm a sucker for the "douchebag looking for meaning in life" genre of films. It's also the best directionless, episodic film I've ever seen, even moreso than Robert Altman's films - which are also often accused of putting people to sleep, btw. ;)

What can I say, I just like the episodic style of it. And I think the meandering, dreamy style suits the trivial, decadent nature of the scenes really well (and much better than the vapid and less inspired (imo) 8 1/2).

I'll just keep mine to 10, that way there's less to point and laugh at :D

Alien
Apocalypse Now
The Beyond (Lucio Fulci)
Jaws
The Last Minute
Bladerunner
Conan The Barbarian (1982)
Videodrome
The Wind & The Lion
Shark Attack 3: Megalodon

Wow, what a great thread!

I know how hard it is to stop at just 10. I actually made up a list not that long ago (it was the latest revision - I keep remaking the list). I wound up with 100. :)

Yes it's amazing. Now That's an experience. Check out the sequels too. One of them (forget which) has the infamous Truman theme from the Truman show

11. Spice World

Q: Why don't you just make Spice World number ten?
A: This goes to eleven.
