So this is probably the worst split/continuous shot I've seen. Skurge breaks these two shots up with his shake weight thing. Too bad they couldn't have just rendered the same background or at least have some continuity with the floor.....

Thanks for doing this edit, I've been hoping someone would tackle this since the idea of trimming the excess humour was first floated on the forum. All sounds great, though I don't know if cutting all the Dr Strange stuff will be problematic for future MCU continuity. Perhaps have two versions, one with Dr Strange left in?

I'm not so sure about the words "Removed the Grandmaster..." in your cutlist :D . "Added the Grandmaster..." would be better. But seriously I guess I'll have to buy myself a copy of Thor3 to watch your edit. The humour definitely went to far at points (e.g. the shake weight) so a pruned edition style edit will be welcome.

I'm struggling to see where the scene with Strange might be relevant in future; it felt very crowbarred-in to me and was made worse by then adding nothing of consequence (though I did like the joke about Loki falling for thirty minutes or however long it was :) ).

I was planning my own edit of Thor 3 for a while. Only ever did the very end of the film, but it looked pretty good.

None-the-less I'll be looking forward to this edit as the other ITW one seems to be dead. Strange's scenes being cut makes sense as he adds nothing but a video game style checkpoint, but it did have some good laughs (Thor's umbrella and Loki falling).

Are you planning on doing any regrading? It looks beautiful, but just a tad flat. A bit of contrast and saturation would fix it I think.

You might be right, but I suppose there's a chance that in avengers 4, Thor & Dr Strange have an encounter & already know one another

Even if they do, it seems unlikely that it would be confusing to an audience unless those scenes were kept in Thor 3.

(Though I readily admit I'm generally uninterested in continuity porn minutiae like this, because for me it doesn't add anything to the stories - more often than not I feel that the MCU's habit of introducing secondary characters into films comes at the expense of each film's pacing and runtime, so for me less is more).

Interesting. I think I'll check this edit out. I own the Blu-ray, so maybe this'll inspire me to do my own edit. :)

And yet another cgi background (and eye too) reused shot that I can't (easily) splice together...

Sorry I'm not understanding this "splice together" issue.

I remember thinking that eye makeup was bad when I watched it.

He just looks like he's squinting from a bad face paint.

It looks like the physical elements were filmed in a single shot which was then split into two shots during editing, but early enough for the post-production process to allow a lack of consistency in the CGI background elements. So if you want to reconstruct the original single shot (for pacing, to allow removing certain lines, etc) you've got to deal with inconsistent CGI elements at the transition point.

^ This. The only difference between the shots is that the first they zoomed in and changed the eye and background. It just makes it kind of bothersome for switching scenes around that should have been one continuous shot.

These are alternate takes, or deleted scenes? or they are one take (with no frames missing) that have a shot in between that you want to take out?

They were filmed continuously in front of a green screen and then probably separated during the editing process. VFX was most likely added afterwards by different individuals. My hope was to combine them back together, but I found a workable solution that removes the one of them.

What about cutting as many instances as possible of Asgardians referring to themselves and each other as gods and goddesses? It annoyed me, since it's inconsistent with the first two movies and makes the characters feel more arrogant (which is fine for Hela, but not so great for Thor and Odin).

In "Thor", Loki briefly mentioned the idea of humans worshiping Asgardians as gods in a dismissive way, as if to imply that humans who thought of them as such were silly and naive. Then, in "Thor: The Dark World", Loki once mentioned that he wanted to rule Earth like a benevolent god, to which Odin rebuked him by saying, "We are not gods. We're born, we live, we die, just as humans do."

Well, Norse mythology calls Thor and Odin gods, so I don't really have an issue with it. Besides, if you read the synopsis on the back of the first Thor it says, "The world has many heroes...but only one is a god." Loki's definition isn't the same as Thor or Odin's definition of gods.

The god thing is pretty heavy, psychologically. But I'm speaking as someone who knows nothing of clinical psychology, of course. Not a doctor!

My point though: if people call you a god for a few thousand years you might start to believe it, even if you know in the back of your head that's not really technically right.
