Fantastic Adventures of Pulp Characters

Love this!

Second from left on bottom: Masked Marvel

Last one on left on bottom: Maybe Vigilante or I agree with @"Rogue-theX" with it being the Lone Ranger.

Me wants this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I've seen this you around the internet.  A little too pricey for me unfortunately

I was so hoping Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow would have added to the Pulp pantheon.
Not to be, though.

Sky Captain lost me during its 3rd act.  The flying robots, awesome!  The plane diving under the sea, cool spin!  The whole villain wasn't alive anymore and whatever weird deep angle I remember not liking and also his friend randomly shows up not even needing the rescue that led them to this point in the movie had me annoyed.  It's  like they lost their way towards the end.

Over time, I have grown to appreciate this movie more and more.  When it first came out, I liked it but felt disappointed by it and Jorge's Remix became my go-to version for a time.  But after I while I felt the fan edit cut too much and took away it's cliffhanger roots charm and I returned to the original and found myself loving it so much more.   While yes, the third act has issues (though most blockbusters this seems to be the sad norm these days) and Sky Captain is horribly miscast (imagine Brandon Fraser or Nathon Fillon is this role!!!!), the charms and strengths of this faithful love letter to serials of old far out weigh any weaknesses.

While it is not a masterpiece, I think it is wonderful homage adventure film that deserves far more appreciation than it gets. :D

those Bruce Tim style drawings made me think of the pulp character animated series Defenders of the Earth.

and here's a youtube video of the intro
(i'll embed it later)

If you enjoy Defenders of the Earth, Dynamite Comics currently holds the rights to the King Features characters and has published some really fun mini-series that are worth checking out...

I happened to notice this rather clever fan trailer from a few years ago and thought it'd be appreciated in this thread...

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :D

Nice!  Totally proves that this could work in black and white!

Anyone here remember this charming little film....?

http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6lsNmoBbvc[/video]

I remember loving it as a kid.   A great tribute to paperback pulp heroes.   Though it never seemed to achieve the cult following I think it deserved.  To my knowledge it has never been released on blu ray.  According to my research, it appears to have been on dvd but it must be out of print as copies now run in the hundred$$$. lol

A very insightful review:

Stumbled upon this and had a Nerdgasm!!!

Fully authorized by the ERB estate, the first novelized team up of TARZAN and JOHN CARTER!!!
But wait!  There's more!!!
DOC SAVAGE and THE SHADOW co-star in the adventure, along many other ERB characters!!!

I WANT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, this book is produced as a collectable, not as a mass market product.  Ranging in price from $200 up to over $7,000, depending on what edition you want to buy!

haha, if I had a nickel for every time I thought this...

Damn, that looks spectacular. The artwork is beautiful and the presentation, the coins ect. ...holy crap! I almost wish I hadn't seen it. Some of the illustrations have a look similar to the early Flash Gordon comic strips.

Time to go buy a lottery ticket!!!

You somehow combined all of those links into one link. Here are fixed versions:

This sounds very interesting. While I'm not sure that I'd call these true "canon", considering that Edgar Rice Burroughs himself didn't write them, this development sounds promising. I especially hope that the John Carter one is good.

It appears that they will be somewhat similar to the "Wild Adventures of Edgar Rice Burroughs" series.

That's weird about the links... not sure how that happened?
Thanks for fixing them for me.

I am pretty excited for this new series.  Such untapped potential, so many characters and worlds to explore.  Should be great fun!

Maybe when they promoted it as "canon" they meant the new storyline will not only run through the books but through other media as well?  As I discovered there is a CARSON OF VENUS comic (how was I unaware of this???) by a company called American Mythology Productions, it uses a similar ERB Universe imprint as the novels....
