Deepfake AI Tech Revolutionize Fan Edits

Put James McAvoy in Xmen Origins and the beginning of Last Stand perhaps?

The biggest problem with this is voices, put a new face over someone, and they still have the original voice. I think this work best with replacing an actor's face with a younger or older version of the same actor. Young Samuel Jackson over him in Captain Marvel for example.

I saw someone put Nic Cage's face on video game characters. This is another thing that could be good. Put Mark Hamill's face over a video game Luke, and you have a more realistic version that could be usable in an edit, as long as the rest of the model is high enough quality. Or hey, put Ben Affleck's face in Batman in one of the Arkham games, and you've got new Batman footage to put in your Batman V Superman edit. I don't know.

That would actually be a perfect example, especially since IIRC we only hear Stewart's voice in telepathic voiceover... if, of course, FC/DoFP hadn't established that, post-Cuba, Xavier could never walk and use his powers at the same time. :p

Unless he's only making you think he can walk.

Hello, I’m back on the forum from a long hiatus and trying to spend some time catching up. While I was away, I thought of fanediting every time I saw something about deep fakes. I watched this video a few weeks ago and while not directly related to using it in fan editing, it does shows the process how deep fakes are made

Jim Carrey suits being the part of jack torrence

These things don't ever really work for me because the voice is still 100% Jack Nicholson, so it still feels like JN to me. You get in a JN impersonator to dub it and I'll be swearing it's Jim Carrey. Not forgetting the mannerisms, although this does highlight that crazy JN and regular JC are similar.

I agree about the voice. The vid I posted used a Tom Cruise impersonator so the mannerisms and voice were close so it’s a little more believable

Keep in mind that some people are woking on AI programs that can change one person's voice into another.

Ha, yes. Just watched some of it and they address exactly the problem I was taking about. Thanks.

Imagine the biopic possibilities! Put the real Elvis over Kurt Russell's portrayal from 1978. Or replace Micheal Shannon and Kevin Spacy with real Elvis and real Nixon in that movie(Or any of the 100 other actors who've done Elvis) Put Johnny Cash in CASH, Marilyn Monroe in....The Madonna Material Girl video? Scratch that one. There are several Marilyn biopics. There are so many options in this vein.
Even if used very sparingly, just imagine documentaries that use re-enactments being able to use the faces of the real people. Charlie Manson, Hitler..... I guess it depends on the source material too. The more hi quality color footage that exists the better the fake can be.
I really wonder if we'll get a wave of James Dean, Elvis, Marilyn, Bowie bio-pics using this tech in the next 10/20 years.

I hope not

This tech makes me think of so many things but the quality and accessibility aren't there yet, for the average computer user.

Unfortunately, thanks to people who insist on making some really weird porn, people who insist on altering politically oriented videos in a way that is not easily detectable, and legitimate concerns about consent and identity rights, lawmakers are not likely to allow the tech to get to a point that we can actually use it for our hobby on a wide scale.

I’m curious how close this is to the above sentiment. I watched Endgame on a flight today and, by far, the worst CGI was the youngification of Michael Douglas. It was awful, even in a small screen and this is the same actor being replaced with ample footage to draw from in one of the biggest budget movies of all time. And it was terrible.

It is easily detectable, which is why it's always detected within days. Whenever technology to fake things becomes more advanced, the technology to detect it is always several steps ahead. That's why Photoshop hasn't caused major societal upheaval.

I don't disagree. Maybe I should have said "immediately" or "effortlessly" instead of "easily" detectable.

When an altered video goes viral, whether it's convincing or otherwise, millions of people may not pay attention long enough to spot the deception, which is why it's an issue being discussed by lawmakers now. It's hard to fool an expert, but easy to fool the masses. It's similar to the effect of a sensational front page headline retracted a week later on an inner page of a newspaper; the damage is done. I'm not advocating for (or against) a situation, just describing it.

For celebrities and politicians and others in the spotlight, deepfake technology is new and powerful, so it's scary.

Val Kilmer over Michael Keaton in Batman 89 and Returns. Someone do this please.

Junior.

Look, Val Kilmer isn't the problem with Forever. I like his Batman. I don't particularly like Keaton's face. Voices are close enough?

This one would be good:

It wouldn't be able reproduce the amazing performance of the first actor but it could smooth things over visually.

I agree ;) .

Imagine having a dark cut of Batman Forever, and have it flash back to Batman killing the Joker, using footage from 89, and putting Kilmer's face on it.
