Trending amongst the common folks... :) #Barbenheimer is for those who wish to see Barbie and Oppenheimer back to back in theatres.
The hashtag got my attention. I wonder if there are any good fanedits that have mixed two such different movies together? Or better, which movies would you edit together even if they don't seem to fit?

I want to see both movies back to back, but nobody wants to see Oppenheimer with me lol
Maybe I'll still do it. My mom is planning on seeing Barbie over the weekend, so I'll probably tag along for that, and then proceed to watch Oppenheimer alone. All depends on the timing too. It doesn't necessarily have to be on the same day I suppose, but I think that adds to the experience.

Just saw both. And both are great.

Barbie was so much fun, and Oppenheimer was haunting. I enjoyed Barbie more than Oppenheimer. I mean, I like to have a good time, ya know?

NO ONE IN THE OPPENHEIMER MOVIE WAS HAVING A GOOD TIME lol

I will say this, though. Oppenheimer is Nolan's most visionary film. It's his most radical point-of-view film. I didn't know he had it in him to achieve those kind of images- almost surreal and metaphysical.

He also did something cool. Nolan loves to intercut, we know this. In addition to the creation of the atomic bomb, Nolan intercuts between two courtroom dramas. It was pretty clever- even if I didn't think that device was entirely successful. Still a great movie.

I have not seen both yet but would love to attempt some kind of combined edit. Mostly for a fun challenge. Did the creation of the atomic bomb spell the end of Barbie-ville? I may have to start looking if there are movies with shared cast members, for some interstitial scenes. I know First Man has Ryan Gosling and Jason Clarke. Also close enough to period appropriate.

Not that I'm aware of. If a fanedit combines films there's usually an obvious reason; same franchise, shared lead actor, similar events depicted differently, etc. The only connection between Barbie and Oppenheimer is the release date.

Barbenheimer is a go. Just finished Oppie, now my mom's on her way to meet me for Barbie. Gotta say, I didn't care much for Oppie. I didn't watch the trailers, I was just going off of my love for The Prestige and TDK, and my enjoyment of Momento, Inception, and Tenet. This wasn't as fun as any of those, I didn't care for the characters, it was just kinda long and boring. I shouldn't have expected more. I guess I'm not the biggest Nolan fan.

I'm the one person who chose not to see either of the two. I don't care about Barbie. Or Ken. Or any of that blonde's friends and dream houses. That movie never appealed to me, even after everyone went nuts over the trailers. As for Oppenheimer, I have severe anxiety over nuclear weapons. I don't think I'm mentally strong enough to handle it. Plus, I feel Nolan peaked with The Dark Knight and Inception, and everything he's made since is either not-as-good or overrated (No offense to Nolan's fans. He's not my cup o' joe).

You can add me to the list of people who will absolutely never watch that long play commercial. Oppenheimer is another story. That is a movie that you need to want to see because of the subject matter to appreciate.

So I know very little about Barbie. But I had heard the movie is more social satire than a light and fluffy doll movie. With Gerwig and Baumbach behind it that makes sense to me. I missed all the lead up hype as I just got back from being in Turkey for two weeks and have heard zero reactions other than it had received favorable reviews. Am I missing something?

It's a long play commercial. Social satire or not.
It's just as much of a commercial as The Dark Knight. I was 5 when TDK came out, I wasn't allowed to watch the movie but I had the toys just because it was Batman and I liked Batman. Barbie isn't made for kids, but it'll sell toys because kids already like the original property. Sure, by using that property you can argue that it's a commercial by default, but that's not what it's supposed to be. The movie has references to various old Barbies, your typical commercial movies will try to push new ideas for new toys. If anything this will encourage people to buy old toys from third party sellers, which doesn't help the toy company at all. Mattel is more or less painted as the villains of the movie. I've never played with a Barbie doll, I've never wanted to, and I still don't. I watched the movie because it's a good film. You don't have to watch it, but calling it a commercial without watching it doesn't sit right with me.

That's the cool thing about opinions. They are subjective.
