I just found a fanedited extended cut of the first A Nightmare On Elm Street on http://www.horrorflix.ws and was wondering if anyone here has seen it. I checked the main site here and it doesn't appear to be on here so is this an edit that was rejected?

And for those that don't have an account with horrorflix:

One of the best horror film of the 80s, presented in an extended version with 11 minutes of restored footage.
This 99 minutes version of Wes Craven's classic contains alternate takes, longer scenes, extra dialogues, previously unused footage and a slightly different soundtrack integrated to the film. It is a fan-made cut, not a director's cut. The video & audio tracks have been remastered and remixed, so that the transitions between the regular cut and the extra scenes go as seamlessly as possible.

Notes:
Most of the extra footage looks to have come from an 'nth generation' vhs and suffers from interlacing artifacts, except Tina's infamous death scene which is fully uncut and the quality is the same as the rest of the main movie. All DVD releases have this scene cut (R-rated print), so I'm assuming the source used was an uncut laserdisc.
Thanks to the original ripper/uploader Dr.Sapirstein who done an excellent job with the editing.

Maybe downloadable from Fanedit.info

Sounds to me regarding the image quality more like a workprint edition than a true extended edition. Something for fans. I take it, you approve this fanedit to fanedit.org, FC, right?

I actually haven't seen it yet. I posted about it as soon as I saw it listed. From the description given at the end of the original post from the person who posted the links it sounds like the quality of the extra footage isn't up to par with the quality of the film itself so I'm not sure this should be approved sight unseen. I'd download this myself but I don't have a premium account with RS anymore and lately I haven't been able to get anywhere near the speed I used to with them. If anyone who does have a premium account with RS and is willing to download this please let us know if this should be posted here.

I have no problems in snagging this off RS for you. Is this some divx crap or another format? Also this sounds very similar to a vhs edition made years ago and pro edited to include all of the alternate/deleted footage that was on the Elite laserdisc. For the record Tina's death is NOT uncut on the laserdisc, though that footage does appear in one of the many behind the scenes chapters (pan and scan only). THE UK dvd version had the scene uncut which is more than likely the source. Drop me a PM and send the links--

BAH! I can understand using dvd footage to make your avi, but the workprint/alternate footage was bad enough on the laserdisc and even then it was from the best exisiting sources, taking that down another level on the quality scale to make a compromised video avi is not a good idea

not to get the xvid war started again, but here is a perfect example when people taking something that could have been very well done and screw it up by releasing it to an inferior format (in my book another of "you do not know what you are doing" and heres the why: because the workprint footage is bad enough on higher quality formats. What would then posses someone to make it worse by releasing it as an xvid avi is beyond me). They could have used mp4 and that would have made up for something while still keeping the size roughly the same

still all in all. I know others will not care and want this preservation, so wire over the RS links and I will download it for us.

I posted the links in my first post when I originally made the thread. Are they not visible to you for some reason?

half of your main post was not loaded up before i started scrolling and reading the rest. Will snag this later today

skimmed through it now. Typical xvid quality, perhaps slightly lesser (I see more murkiness and block noise than your usual xvid). The extra footage used varies but the worst made it look like a vcd with a lot of blocks but still watchable.

The sound was nice and clear. It would be better if someone could get in touch with the person who actually made this (or the person who had it before they made it an xvid for uploading).

This was also viewing it on the pc (pc screens tend to hide things). There could be a chance it might look a little worse viewing it on your tv set. I cannot verify that at this time

I would not mind a dvd version.

This one is kind of hard to call. They did more work on it than just editing in scenes. They did techincally re-do the soundtrack to a degree.

It gets my approval despite my issue with the quality and format, but as to where it would fall under...I would say either extended or special edition (more so towards special edition)

the avi rants are starting to bore me actually. This is the only version this is available in so we have to deal with it as it is. An Xvid can look better than a DVD if someone knows what he is doing, a DVD can look way worse than an Xvid if someone doesn't. So, if this has acceptable quality, ok. As for watching an xvid or DVD on the PC: most monitors have a way higher resolution than a TV, so actually the image looks better on TV than it would on PC.

Still thanks a lot for the comment, tranzor, and of course for the approval. Anyone willing to create a cover art for this really quickly?

here is my take on a cover art for this:

Nice cover Boon. The guy who posted it on horrorflix posted this cover art as well. I guess I just forgot to include it.

so is this Dr Sapirstein the faneditor? And is this a full cover or just this screenshot? Could you send it to me in full quality please (boon23 (at) fanditforum (dot) com)

I have no idea. I posted everything I knew about it in my original post. As for the cover art I just checked the properties and posted the link it gave me as the url so that's all I have for it I'm afraid.

by the bar on top of that front of the cover, it looks like one of RHR's covers .... :-o

RHR would have mentioned it if it was his work. But from the image quality to the way of release, yes... similarities.

I have a full DVD quality version of this, actually. It's been awhile since I've viewed it...so in that regard I can't say how much better OR worse certain scenes are, but that can be taken care of later today. My guess is someone has just released it in a lower format. I'm willing to send this to someone to upload if there's interest for it.

judging from the viewing numbers, there is a lot of interest. If you want to, I can do the uploading. But please check, if the quality really is any better.

Ok....

Non-anamorphic widescreen, quality of the original scenes won't exceed the quality found on the original DVD release(s) of NOES (as in the box set and single disc release that came well before the most recent 2 disc SE set). The additional scenes vary depending on how much darkness there is, but there's a clear enough difference that you'd have to label this a "workprint." The audio is definitely 2.0 stereo although it's clear the additional scenes have a mono source with dialog while the music is stereo because of the use of the score direct from the CD release.

Hope this helps. 8)
