2017 Movies

Full trailer now...

It doesn't look toned down and "Americanized" at all, it looks like a full on crazy Anime, big-budget live-action Hollywood style. Yay. If they needed to cast Johansson in the lead (rather than a Japanese actress) to make the numbers work, I can live with that. This has moved to the top of my 2017 list now! (Star Wars projects aside ;) ).

Second KONG:SKULL ISLAND trailer.... looks fun.  :D

^ That does look fun.  All of the things in this thread make me hopeful that 2017 will be better than 2016 in terms of blockbusters, which I feel like has been generally disappointing.

Thanks for sharing.

^^ ...aaaaand I'm out.

The serious 'Apocalypse Now' inspred film that the first trailers showed did not have John C Rielly in a comedy-beard goofing around. At first I thought this was a fanedited joke trailer where they cut in footage from some comedy. Hopefully this movie can be rescued with a fanedit.

I am now officially in mourning for the movie that was in this trailer six months ago...

I don't know.  I think adding some humor into might not be that bad.  I think since The Dark Knight movies have been trying to be "super serial" and I don't think it always works.  It hasn't worked for any non-Batman DC movie and it didn't work for the Godzilla reboot IMO.  I found something a little less serious like Pacific Rim was much more enjoyable.  Partly the reason I think Marvel movies have been more successful, they blend drama and humor together for a fun movie going experience.

Granted, this is just a trailer and they could take it waaaaay over the top with the humor.  It seems to be a fun movie (judging the trailer) and i like to give movies the benefit of the doubt.

If you didn't see it, this apparently is the opening of the film. It mirrors the anime almost exactly, music and all.

^ I fully agree. sigh.

The Universal Monsters Universe begins....

THE MUMMY

Saw the Mummy trailer today. I'm predicting a massive *flop* even with Mr Cruise on board. Can Hollywood make a decent action/thriller that doesn't involve mass destruction of cgi nothingness? I suppose it's ok that Cruise is the male hero due to the fact that we now have a villainess in the new Mummy.

Wow that looks awful. A few things...

- Would anybody guess this was a Mummy movie, if it wasn't in the title? You'd think it was an alien movie right? What is the point of using a franchise, if you remove everything that defines said franchise.
- She's a scientist because = glasses
- Oh Russell :D  you will keep trying with your accents... despite it never working. It's quite endearing really (If you are reading this Mr Crowe, please don't punch me like you did with the other people who said you sucked at accents ;) )

I couldn't be less excited about that movie.

I had the opposite reaction. When first announced I had no desire to see it, but the beginning of this trailer pushed all the right buttons.

I'll confess to being a Cruise fan, and this looks like Mission Impossible with supernatural elements. Sweet.

However, the last part of trailer did suggest the CG horror show (no pun intended) it could be. So, consider me interested, with reservations.

For @"reave" .....  :D

I give you this, Bay knows how to make a good epic trailer... lol

...dunno, I enjoyed the first three despite being brainless messes but the last one I found unwatchable... plus the Walhberg factor....?

Stumbled over this. Wow. Piqued my interest. Never heard of the book though?

Tom, Karen, Emma, John. Nice cast!

^ Man, The Internship franchise has taken a moody turn. :p

Sigh. Yet another awesome British actor (oh, who am I kidding, I only actually mind when it's the actresses) doing an American accent for no compelling reason, thereby seriously blunting their appeal. The US has tons of talented young actresses, Hollywood! Hire Brits by all means, but don't have them do our flat, boring ol' voices! I mean, sure, if they're playing Martin Luther King or Batman, that's one thing. But here?

Anyhow, it gives the impression of going in a pretty conventional direction in its latter half. After Facebook arguably swayed the real 2016 election by not cracking down on/being flooded by fake news shares, can any fictional parody-critique still sting?

....where's the Hoff?  :D

^ Jesus christ. That is depressing on so many levels. Let's hope we all look back on 2016 as some sort of low point for humanity from which we eventually recovered.

Blade Runner 2049 teaser is up.

It's great to see Han on Tatooine one last time.

Really though, it looks like Blade Runner.  It sounds like Blade Runner.  I'm onboard.  So. (Spoilers for the first movie.)

Deckard:  Human all along? A replicant that thinks he's the first Deckard?  If so, we run into a potential never-ending recursion of possibilities.  A replicant that thinks it's a human who once thought he was a replicant?  And so on.  Fun.

I like that Blade Runner trailer. Ryan Gosling seems like a good fit.

I hope it turns out that some of the early replicants' artificial lifespans either weren't added or didn't work. It would add a little tragedy to the first film's villains, they never found their answer and it might have been only required patience to see they didn't just die. But it would still leave the question of Deckard being a replicant open to interpretation.

In other words, I really hope they don't try to give the question a definite answer and have enough of their own new plot to deal with that it never comes up.
