Might as well have a thread about the first installment of the new DCU.

Super excited for this new take on Superman. James Gunn has said that Superman Legacy will be about a young Clark Kent coming to terms with his powers and learning to reconcile his human and kryptonian sides. This is a new direction for the franchise after Man of Steel, which was about a young Clark Kent coming to terms with his powers and learning to reconcile his human and kryptonian sides. Which in itself was a breath of fresh air after Smallville, which was 500 hours of a young Clark Kent coming to terms with his powers and learning to reconcile his human and kryptonian sides.
Of course, the "black sheep" of the Superman franchise will always be Superman Returns, a bold new vision of a middle-aged Clark Kent coming to terms with his powers and learning to reconcile his human and kryptonian sides.

In all seriousness, I really hope that Superman Legacy is good. James Gunn has always been hit-or-miss for me but I have to admit that his hits are hits, and he could be a good fit for Supes if he doesn't try too hard to be cool.

Avengers 1 actually
Barely so in the post credit scene. Guardians was the first time we see him proper as a character and where he and the Infinity stones are all set up.

They said it's not an origin story so I don't expect a slow buildup this time. Full launch, bay-bee. Nathan Fillion finally got cast as a Green Lantern! That's great!

James Gunn's Superman logo. I like that it blew up the yellow from the inside then out to the border lining.

The movie is also just called SUPERMAN now. Can't wait.

Looser fit. I like it. Apparently there's no padding on the suit (although I do see some textured designs and patterns)

Looks like the trunks are back. Nice.

I don't like the collar- yuck. New 52 flashbacks. But it'll grow on me

I so hope this is true. As I was mentioning in another thread, I never understood the logic of Studios to spend so much time and money to transform their superhero actors into mega-jacked, ultra-ripped, steroid monsters, only to then stuff them into a thick rubber suit with fake muscles built into it. The most recent example, Jason Momoa looked absolutely ridiculous in his Aquaman 2 suit.

In regards to this first official look, I keep thinking it is an odd moment to promote. Considering the apparent crisis happening outside his window, the Last Son of Krypton does not look too concerned or motivated. He does not look HEROIC. Makes me wonder (and I am probably waaaaay over thinking it) what Mr. Gunn is trying to say? But I guess that is the point. Mr. Gunn has successfully piqued my curiosity! lol

Oh yeah, I think Jason Momoa actually put on a lot of pounds and couldn't get rid of it quick enough for Aquaman 2 lol That's why he's in the suit a lot. I digress, I don't mean to body shame.

I think to me, it looks like a quintessential Superman shot for me. He's clearly damaged. To me his face, says more "I must do this because no one else could" than apathetic, ya know what I mean? It's not a moving image so I can't really tell the urgency, but to me it feels very Superman. A hero isn't there to smile at folks (maybe out in the open), but deep inside there's bravery.

Actually, you know what the image reminds me of most? Chris Evans' Captain America. And if that's the template then I'm all for it.

All fair points. And without context, it is impossible to fairly judge it.

I must give Mr Gunn points for Social Media Savvy, as he has succeeded in generating some interesting discussions based on this reveal.

I don't mind the suit, it's the tone of the movie I'm worried about. I don't want another edgelord 'emo' Superman film, we just got done with the Snyder dumpsters

Can I ask the Superman fans what it is they want from a Superman movie? I admit I have trouble understanding the appeal, not of the character, but of stories involving the character. I may be way off and that’s why I’m asking. But it seems to me that Superman represents a sort of idealized good; as if it were the best of humanity, but also given godlike power. But for such a character how do you introduce conflict? Love for humanity underscored by his separateness from it? Inability to make things perfect despite his great power?

From a strictly action standpoint, it seems he is so overpowered that there is little tension in that regard. How many times can someone disable him with Kryptonite, after all, and still have it be compelling storytelling?

Superman is obviously beloved by a great many fans and is probably at the very top of the heap in terms of A list superheroes, so there has to something there. But as someone who doesn’t really know the comics, I wonder what it is that medium has been able to achieve that it seems no movies have been able to replicate. The original Donner film seems to be the best effort so far, but I do think it, too, fails in many ways to produce compelling drama beyond “oh no! Kryptonite!”

Never understood that argument, The Crow was emo, the Birds of Prey TV show was emo, The Batman was emo. SnyderVerse Superman was all but that.

Following the success of The Dark Knight trilogy and the failure of Superman Returns, WB wanted a darker take on the character that was more in line with TDK and the current New 52 reboot. Edgier, maybe, but certainly not emo. Gosh, even TASM was following the darker path of TDK, and it didn't receive half-the sh*t MoS got.

Plus, it was refreshing, since I was a kid we only got Reeve's version of Superman and his knockoffs, Superboy (1988), Lois & Clark, and Superman Returns. Only Smallville gave us something different for a change, but it was on a CW budget.

The SnyderVerse was awesome cause it gave us something other than Fireman Sam with superpowers. With MoS for the first time I felt how powerful a son of Krypton can be, and the consequences if a fight between god-like creatures happened on Earth.

If The Batman was highlighted as a great adaptation of Batman Earth One, I highlight MoS as a great adaptation of Superman Earth One.

Also, these were pure Superman moments.

I love it! Home-made suit, no lines, no knee-pads, no battle damage, perfectly sewn around the shoulders. The collar still bothers me tho, but I wish we got this instead.

Using the Kent farm as background is so fitting, why the hell did they choose such a gloomy-looking first look while marketing the movie as a "bright" Superman adaptation?

I read somewhere that Krypto's gonna be in it. It is set to be a CGI dog played by an actress in a mocap suit.
