I just watched this movie last night, and overall it was entertaining. No masterpiece but it was funny. I guess I liked the classic Kevin-Smith-Dick-And-Fart-Jokes style most of all. The actual romance story played out a bit cheesy. I don't know if it was a matter of the script or the actors themselves. I thought Seth Rogen did a great job though. Not too outside the box for him.
One of the things that really got me in this movie was THE sex scene. ...the one where Zack and Miri finally make the plunge. And it was all in the music. I almost shit myself when I heard it. This was a rare recording of the song "Hold Me Up" (previously referred to as "Lift Me Up") by Live. This was a B-Side to the album "Throwing Copper" (yes, you saw that right). The only version of this song that I had (or anyone really for that matter) was on a demo tape of Throwing Copper. The song suffers from some tape hiss and other analog problems, but it really is a great song. I was ecstatic when I saw the scene, not only was it a perfect choice for the scene, but it meant that a mastered recording was finally available!!!
So today, I searched Amazon for the soundtrack, and to my surprise the song IS NOT ON THE SOUNDTRACK. bah. Interestingly enough, Kevin Smith actually wanted this song for an earlier movie (IIRC, it was Clerks), but Live said NO. So Kevin harassed them again, and this time they said yes. I am really glad that it made it just for this movie, because it fits so well (and actually has a Pennsylvania connection to the movie. movie: Monroville, PA, band: York, PA).
Here is the scene with the song (Warning: MAJOR SPOILER. do not watch this clip if you haven't seen the movie):

and here is the best version of the song that I think is available. It is from the demo tape of Throwing Copper: HOLD ME UP (improved version HERE)
