Who's the Sony Vegas expert(s) around here?

Vegas 9.0 Platinum, (9.0b, build 92) on XP Pro.

I'm trying to build up a project from a bunch of MP4's I saved off of YouTube using a Firefox add-on called Easy YouTube Downloader. As I build the project, I'm hitting a point where every time I select a clip in the Explorer window to put it into the timeline, just clicking on the file crashes Vegas and gives me this error window:

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0

Anyone know what the problem is? Sent it to Sony's tech support thru the site but they're closed not only for the weekend but for July 4th.

Doesn't Vegas only like working with AVI's?

I work with .mpg and .mts all the time.

AVI is the most stable way to edit w/ Vegas. It can handle many other file types but to varying degrees.

For example, I have had Vegas randomly drop frames when working in MPEG format before, I do not have much experience w/ other formats though. I stick to AvP's suggestion of Lagarith AVI for quality and stability.

Usually when vegas CANT handle a file it will give me a popup saying that the filetype is invalid.

The only crashes I have had were due to insufficient RAM when I first started out and was editing on a machine w/ 512MB  :?

Well stated. Vegas can accept a wide variety of filetypes, but handles AVI the best. I also had dropped frames, and stuttery transitions using MPEG. MPEG was never designed for editing. Crashing mostly occurs when your computer is tehsuck and you are trying to work with large files.
