The Empire Begins by Darth Awesome

Review from IFDB:

I really enjoyed this edit. As a disclaimer, I'm not a massive Star Wars fan. I like the original trilogy and have probably watched the prequels once since I picked them up years ago. I've watched a few edits over the years but that's about it. I watched this hoping it could be a really good concise version and that's exactly what it was. The visual editing was really well done. I thought the wipes were very well done. Despite being pretty rusty on the nuances of the story, I got it just fine. Actually, better than I remember since Anakin makes a lot more sense. There are problems (such as Hayden Christiansen being horrible at conveying emotion and downright laughably bad dialogue) but they are pretty much with the films themselves. Most of my problems with them are minimized here. There was a weird black frame as Dooku approached around 58 minutes and at 1:08 the music swells then dies super quickly. These are the only things I noticed and they are very minor in the grand scheme of things. The editing was really well done overall and this is my preferred version of the prequels now.

I am only curious if this edit could have entirely skipped the Darth Maul sequence?

This was great. For the first time I like Anakin, it's such a sad story. Loved the transition between episode II and III. I like Star Wars Again, yay! :p

revel911 - You've seen the edit? It's important that Qui Gon tells OB that Anakin is the chosen one. It sets up the "you were the chosen one!" payoff in Sith, one of the most powerful scenes in the SW canon imo. Besides, the duel with Darth Maul is soooo awesome, especially all stitched together (if I may say so myself).

flesheatingbug - Hooray! I agree, the story is an epic tragedy. With some of the clunky showstoppers gone, Lucas' genius really shines through.

Why can't it just be in the crawl.

......

A Separatist movement, led by the mysterious Count Dooku, has made it hard for the limited number of Jedi Knights to maintain peace and order in the galaxy.

Senator Padme Amidala is coming to the Capital to vote on the critical issue of creating a CLONE ARMY to assist the overwhelmed Jedi.

The senator’s life is in the protection of Jedi Obi-wan Kenobi and his young apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, whom many say will bring balance to the force…

But a picture says a thousand words right? My "Casino Royale" intro sets up OB, pays homage to Qui Gon, and gives you the best duel in the trilogy. It makes OB's "you were the chosen one!" more personal. It's not just folklore that Anakin will bring balance, Obi made a vow to his dying master and has tragically failed. The master/apprentice relationship is a key theme in the prequels.
