What are the best tools for ripping from the DVD, and editing? And if I wanted to add film grain effects and blood to weapons what would I need to do?

dvd decrypter is a solid tool for ripping dvds to your computer
you can find a walkthough here viewtopic.php?f=44&t=804&p=8048&hilit=womble#p8048

the walkthough uses womble as the cornerstone of the entire process however i think you should expiriment with sony veges from the get go, useing womble only to make a rough cut of the film and to fix any issues with the stream like detailed in the guide listed above. vegas can produce far cleaner video and sound edits then womble is capable off..

vegas is more then capable of adding grain to the picture as well as blood to weapons.. however the blood to weapons issue may require use of a different program to get more realistic results... im not an effects guru so i couldnt tell you exactly what would be best
