In regards to Troi, I agree her onscreen presence is greatly reduced in this edited version.  Though I think it preferable to the official alternative, being reduced to a victim in a horrifically conceived rape plot.   How did Berman ever think this was a good idea???  

Didn't he produce the TNG episode "Violations"?

I never believe Troi when she's supposed to be sad, wounded, upset. Those Troi scenes usually just weird me out. It's like she just committed some ghastly crime and she's trying to trick me into being her alibi or to get me to be a false witness to something.

Exactly.  And if that is not bad enough, the producers did it again in the episode "The Child". 

For a supposedly progressive show, TNG often treated its female characters very poorly.

And I absolutely agree, looking back, there are some editing narrative choices I should have done better.... particularly the Emergency Beam-Out Badge.
Not sure I would use the Deleted Footage again either? At least not in an HD edit, unless a program like Topaz can work miracles?

Considering there seems to be 4K remasters on the horizon for the rest of the original Trek films, might as well wait for them as well.
