DS9 = big disappointment for this Trekker. TOS is fine, but I was raised on TNG. Picard is my captain!
I enjoyed Voyager although it was a lot of fluff - but it was fun fluff. DS9 was booooring as all that - except for season 5. Wow. Possibly one of the best seasons of Trek. Season 6 was a bit meh. And 7 I have yet to watch.
I surprised you guys think it was the best realised? It felt horribly muddled to me in seasons 1&2, even most of 3, with poor, single-thread stories that felt like cast-offs from TNG. Nobody seemed to have any type of character, particularly poor old Kira who just became anything the plot decided she needed to be. Ugh.
When TNG finished and they could focus everything on DS9 it jumped in quality. Suddenly we had the multi-threaded stories we were used to from TNG, the characters were more settled, and the whole thing had an identity. I mean, even the theme song became better (the original was sooo bad). I wasn't surprised to hear it nearly got cancelled, and Ronald D Moore and Ira Behr had to change quite few things (like introducing Worf!) to save it. Season 4 & 5 are pretty good (they left the station and got in a ship....).
