This is the reason why I turn on tv...best tv show I've seen for years ('prison break'? -weak, 'lost'?- yes I lost interest...)! I've just watched last episode of second season and I'm going to buy 'Rome'... great casted, great acted, well directed. Highly recommended!

Yes; I enjoyed it, although I did think it was trying a bit too hard to court a mainstream audience by plugging the sex and violence angle early on. It improved as it went along for me.

It is always a pleasure to watch Ciaran Hinds. I have long considered him to be a first-rate actor, and I wish he were in more films; although I am pleased to note that he appears to have a role in the next Harry Potter film.

Yes, awesome show indeed. I thought the second half of S1 was too rushed and would love to have at least glimpsed the Circus Maximus, but other than that, I basically have no complaints.

But while I would have loved to see a few more seasons, I'm pretty sure I hate what show create Bruno Heller had in mind:
I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show was going to end. The second was going to end with the death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt. Fifth was going to be the rise of the messiah in Palestine.
WTF would Jesus have had to do with any of the show's characters? I doubt Octavian ever even heard of the guy. Showing Herod was cool and all, since the historical figure actually dealt with Rome and its rulers, but seeing as its relative historical accuracy was one of the great aspects of the series, "retconning" Christianity into playing a significant role in Rome during Augustus' lifetime would have been an absolute travesty.

Vorenus Vivit! :)
