Great docs!

Here is a little known one I really like: The Treasure Of The Humboldt Glacier. I watched it in the UK in the 90's and had it on tape. I converted it to an Xvid and it's one I watch every couple of years.

"An aircraft dealer and his mechanic try to recover a crashed American B29 bomber from a frozen lake at the North Pole, where it has lain since 1947. The plane is dragged out of the lake, and attempts are made to repair it in severe weather conditions. However, the mechanic becomes ill and the weather becomes worse, while the plane used to reach the site has problems with its engine and needs urgent repair itself."

I watch documentary's on my phone and am currently someway through Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple, which is the second time I've watched it.

"Featuring never-before-seen footage, this documentary delivers a startling new look at the Peoples Temple, headed by preacher Jim Jones who, in 1978, led more than 900 members to Guyana, where he orchestrated a mass suicide via tainted punch."

Gotta mention The Corporation too. Watch the three hour version.

9/11 by the Naudet Brothers is another very good doc.

Docs are good!

Those both sound very interesting, especially the Jonestown one. I'm a big fan of documentaries on true crimes, serial killers, and cults.

I've seen The Corporation but I wasn't aware there was more than one version. The IMDB lists it as 145 minutes so that's probably the cut I've seen.

The B29 one is probably quite hard to get hold of. But like I said, I have an Xvid of it I made from the tape I recorded it onto from the TV. I wouldn't read too much about it. It's better not knowing what happens.

The Jonestown one might even be on Youtube or somewhere else online. It's quite a well known one I think. It's really good.

The three hour version of The Corporation is an extended TV cut.

I've seen Harlan County, USA and This Film Is Not Yet Rated. I haven't seen The Last Waltz but if I'm not mistaken it's a concert film and I'm not a fan of The Band so I'll pass on that one. And I never said I was basing my movie watching on the MPAA. It's just that if I were to avoid any and all films approved by the MPAA I'd be relegated to only watching independent and foreign films. Even documentaries are viewed and approved by the MPAA. I just thought it would be a fun thing to do and also perhaps a way to keep track of what I watch, aside from my yearly viewing list.
Yeah, it's a rockumentary, but like I said if you're a Martin Scorsese fan it's worth a watch anyway.

As for the MPAA thing, I was making a joke about your 50,000 movie challenge.

Weed country on discovery is a mix of documentary and reality. Still surprisingly entertaining

This Film Is Not Yet Rated and Good Hair FTW.
i was surprised at how funny and interesting i found Good Hair (i'm a white guy.)

a few i found interesting;
Who Killed the Electric Car (makes you cynical to the sheeple who thought how innovative the early Prius was),
Guns, Germs and Steal (standard Jared Diamond brilliance),
Anime: Drawing a Revolution (not the most in depth you'll find, but a nice introduction to the genre).

That's the first I've ever heard of an extended TV cut for an already 2.5 hour film. Also the first time I've ever heard of an extended cut for a documentary, at least as far as I can recall anyways.

These sound really interesting. I love docs on old school tech and drugs.

Isn't this just home video footage shot by family members pulling pranks and pissing off "Uncle Goddamn" to get him riled up and swearing?

nOmArch said:
Bird on a Wire (Restored Leonard Cohen COncert Film)
Cocksucker Blues (Rolling Stones Banned concert film)

I'm not typically a concert film fan. If I'm going to sit through one I want to at least like the band/performer's music. I never really listened to Leonard Cohen, and I don't like The Rolling Stones, except for the song "Paint It Black", but I've heard so much about Cocksucker Blues that I am interested in seeing it. The only problem is that it'll never get an official release and the only copies in circulation are shitty quality bootlegs.

Maybe I just saw a bad copy, I found Cocksucker Blues to be pretty much unwatchable. I do love the "Ladies & Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones" live set from Texas in '72. Early '70s was their best era and it's a smoking set.

Yep, their new documentary From Bedrooms to Billions the story of the UK computer games industry will be out later this year (and you can still pledge for it on kickstarter) Get Lamp was also by the same people.

[Uncle Goddamn]

Isn't this just home video footage shot by family members pulling pranks and pissing off "Uncle Goddamn" to get him riled up and swearing?

Yes. I admit it's not a proper documentary in the sense of the word we're using but it kinda is. Anyway it's sporadically hilarious so I thought I'd throw it in

[Cocksucker Blues]

I'm not typically a concert film fan. If I'm going to sit through one I want to at least like the band/performer's music. I suggest a PM in my direction would be a good idea.

[Kink of Kong]
I didn't even know there was a workprint of this film. Does Billy Mitchell come of as an even bigger asshole in the workprint?

Quite simply. Yes. Although the commentary by the two journalists on the official disc is worth the price of the disc alone.

[Various weird shit]

Those sound too weird and interesting to pass up.

All interesting, terrifying and amusing all at the same time.

On a personal note, not being able to do multiple quote embedding is a pain in the arse

e2a

I know you didn't quote them specifically but do try and Check out Johns Not Mad and Cat Ladies those two are classic.

I just Googled it and the third search result was the entire film on YouTube. Do you have it on DVD, or just an .avi?

If you could shoot me a PM as to where I can find the workprint that would be awesome.

I don't know why but I am fascinated by the adult film industry, weird fetishes, sex trafficking/prostitution, snuff films, LGBT related stuff so anything regarding any of those I'm sure to enjoy.

I swear I'm not a pervert.

Cat Ladies sounds interesting and John's Not Mad does sound hilarious so I'll be sure to look for them. Is it okay to laugh at somebody with Tourettes? I feel like it's just mean spirited, like making fun of somebody who's mentally challenged, but I can't help but laugh.

nOmArch said:

Forgot about Gimme Shelter. Saw that one years ago, the Criterion release, and I seem to remember enjoying it.

in that case. SEX: the Annabel Chong story is a gut punchingly sad look at the industry through one girl's experience.

There's a 7Gb DVD-R flying around but I have the 1.2Gb Avi.

Okey Dokey

Not gonna comment on laughing at people with Tourettes directly but the documentary is hilarious because they purposely set it up for laughs why else would they show footage of John walking around a super market swearing uncontrollably which is populated entirely by old ladies. One of the most (un)intentionally funny things I've ever seen.

Cat Ladies is great because the women are kinda nuts; especially the cute younger woman who is priceless.

Taxidermy: Stuff the World is another good one about weirdo people who as you watch the documentary you realise they are all obsessed with getting the genitals and anus' of their animals just 'right'

I believe I've seen that one, but it's been so long that I can't be sure. She's the one that went for the gangbang record, and was later decrowned by a pornstar by the name of Houston, right?

I wonder how much of that is rigged though. But it does sound hilarious.
