Most new users don't bother reading our rules. Here's the one that is ignored almost immediately upon signup: DO NOT ASK FOR FANEDIT LINKS PUBLICLY. First, read the FAQ. Seriously. What you want is there. You can also send a message to the editor. If that doesn't work THEN post in the Trade & Request forum. Anywhere else and it will be deleted and an infraction will be issued.
If this is your first time here please read our FAQ and Rules pages. They have some useful information that will get us all off on the right foot, especially our Own the Source rule. If you do not understand any of these rules send a private message to one of our staff for further details.
What sort of stand-alone unit? Almost everything plays MPEG-2, so the player might not like either the file itself or the fact that MPEG-2 video is in an MP4 container. Try remuxing the file to a transport stream or an MKV. It might not be necessary to re-encode the video.
I have an LG BluRay BD 570 that I run all my files through.
To forestall any computer to theater suggestions, my laptop does not have an HDMI port.
I tried a simple remux using mkvmerge, with the resultant mkv file.
Video still unsupported.
I know it's my player or model that, for whatever reason, cannot decipher the MPEG2.
What you mean by running your files through the player? Streaming to it? Connecting an external hard drive over USB and using it as a media player?
Again, I doubt that the player has a problem with MPEG-2 (no matter how you are playing the file), but perhaps the file itself is problematic. In which case, you might have to recompress it. I'm loathe to suggest HandBrake, but if you just want to watch it, you might give it a try.
Captain, I didn't think so. Still, a fool believes ...
Dangermouse, you mean rename the extension mpg? I'll give it a go.
.
.
.
Grrr, Video format not supported.
I can see hours of Handbrake ahead, or get the DVD 9 of this edit and try that.
Yeah! That's what I'll try!
I realized what I had was actually an mkv file, that I changed the extension to mp4.
That did not work, neither did mpg nor the original mkv.
That video codec of MPEG 2 baffled my player.
I changed the extension back to mkv, then ran the file back through a bit of low rent software I haven't used in years.
Pazera Free Converter. Converted to mp4. Filesize went from 7.5 to 7.4 but it was otherwise fine.
So I have another three hour extended edit in my queue.
Captain Khajiit and dangermouse, thank you both for helping me.
I got a file that was too big to burn.
Yes, I know, who burns anymore?
So I reduced it from 8.5 to 8, tested it from external HD to Bluray USB port.
Get sound, but no picture.
Pez.
Tossed the file in mkvmerge and saw the video codec was MPEG4/ISO/AVC
Dude ...
Doing it again, using RipBot264. 18 hours.
Poke self in eye now.
