Program needed: 2
WinRAR
QuickPAR
this guide is geared towards a dvd newsgroup release but will work for anything.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
WinRAR part:
1) place all files in one folder, titled something like c:\DVD1
2) Right click on folder (c:\DVD1)
-> ad to archive...
3)This will open up winrar.
a) click 'browse' button, and select location to save output rar files like c:\DVD1_rard also title the file something 'dvd1' dont worry about the file extention, click 'open'
b) under compression method choose either store or best. store has no compression, best as the most and saves up/download times, but long compression time, i use best.
c) under 'split to volumes, bytes' either pick zip100 or type '100mb' in
d) under 'archiving options' choose 'create solid archive' and also 'test archived files' you can also choose, if you like 'delete files after archiving' that will delete your originals
e) under the 'advanced' tab you can check 'old style volume names' that means *.rar, *.r00, *.r01 and so on. If you dont check it you get *.part01.rar, *.part02.rar, and so on. This is just personal choice, but old style does give shorter file names.
4)Click 'OK' and wait for compression to finish.
You should now have a folder, c:\DVD1_rard, filled with your archived files. At this time I add the nfo file to this folder. Named the same as the rar files so ' dvd1.nfo' and 'dvd1.rar' and 'dvd1.r00' and so on.
Time for quickpar
1) Start quickpar
2)Click 'Add Files' button
a) navigate to folder with nfo and rar files, so c:\dvd1_rard
b) highlight all file in folder, or pick one and hit ctrl-a to highlight all
c) click 'open' button
3) Under 'Block Allocation'
a) check 'Restrict block size to multiples of UseNet article size'
4)Under 'Recovery Files'
a) set 'Redundancy' to at least 10% i do 15%, 20% is VERY nice but over the top.
b) set 'First recovery block number' to 0
c) set 'Recovery file size' to 'Variable (limited to size of largest data file)'
5)Click on the 'Options' button
a) Under 'Preferred Block Size' check 'For yenc'
b) set 'for yenc' to 3,000 lines
c) click 'ok'
6)Click 'Create' sit back and wait for it to create your par2 files.
When done you should have a folder that contains your nfo, rar, and par files. like c:\dvd1_rard with dvd1.par, dvd1.nfo, dvd.rar, dvd.r00, dvd.r01, dvd.vol000+01.par, dvd.vol001+02.par and so on.
