Very awesome take on it all. Don't think Hollywood would go with anything like that though.

Now, THAT'S impressive!!! Kicks ass in all the right places. Hollywood: make this, now!

Yeah, I gave this a watch. And wow, I was completely blown away by it. Especially with Van Der Beek and Katee Sackhoff. Both did a very fantastic job. I know I'd love to see more of the story. There's definitely so many story directions could go with this.

Acting was very awesome. It's always nice to see Will Yun Lee as well. Since he's a fantastic actor that just keeps popping up everywhere. (Tho, favorite role of his was his role in the Fast and the Furious franchise. Still sad to see him go.) Also dug the cgi zord shots as well. And it's definitely a different unique take on the Rangers. Kinda digging the look into it as child soldiers. Adds a whole new perspective to things.

The NSFW version (hosted on Vimeo) is a bit more x-rated what with the porn and stuff, but I was expecting the Youtube version to be a bit tamer (in case kids wandered over to it) and it surprisingly wasn't that much.

It's a very cool version but I wouldn't go with it. Honestly I would go with the original format and only update it slightly to fit today's standards a bit more. Instead of teens they'd have to be in their early twenties as well.

Update it with special effects, improved martial arts and stunt work, and you could have something there.

That video is the sort of realistic approach everyone is going for and if there's one show that can't possibly fit that bill it has to be The Power Rangers. Stick with the original fantasy format. If they rape another one of my childhood shows I swear to God I'll write them a letter. I don't care what they'll do with it but at least I'll get that off my chest :p

The video looks cool, good actors chosen too. Very nice. Takes a silly concept and makes it somewhat legitimate.
Only 2 questions and they come from the second video:
Why does the producer guy have that weird makeup on his eyes while judging someone else for not being "cool enough"? like way to be superficial, buddy. And who is he looking at/talking to next to the camera? I found him annoying, which is a shame because looking at his IMDb, he's done a lot of stuff I like. In particular, Dredd.

Somebody actually disliked this? I'm guessing it's a mistake. Have a like from me to balance it out.

Why, thank you, kind sir :D

So, when I first saw this, I was like:

But then I read this interview:

http://www.hitfix.com/motion-captur...n-der-beek-doing-in-joseph-kahns-powerrangers

So...I can kinda see the satire going on, like starting an uber-bloody fight scene with "It's Morphin' time," a "Hip-Hop-Kido" exercise tape, "I prefer pink," stuff like that are ways that I can see as a satire of making dark epics out of silly 90s nostalgia property...That said, I feel that it's far too mean-spirited as a satire (I believe the best parody/satire comes from fans who love what they are parodying/satirizing), and if we're taking it straight, then it's a generic at best, and an unnecessarily grim deconstruction at worst, and the fact that some people that do choose to take it straight and want the Legendary Pictures movie to take inspiration from this short is just...what? It reminds me of that fake MMPR teaser that had Lord Zedd murdering a little girl in an alleyway, which is equally WTF if it's supposed to be taken seriously.

Call me biased for being a fan since I was little, but in a post-Sam Raimi Spider-Man/Avengers/Pacific Rim/Guardians of the Galaxy world, is it so hard to ask for a movie that does a good job of staying to the roots of the show while also appealing to modern sensibilities?

Very amusing. I particularly cracked up at the summary of the number of times Tommy lost and regained his powers. A particularly vivid (and frustrating!) collection of memories from my childhood, there. Lots of in jokes, lots of references. Most certainly done with affection. While some properties (Bond, BSG, Batman) do very, very well with darker reboots, this makes a terrific point that some things can and never should be made to be something they are inherently not meant to function as.

I also like that this basically Watchmen. Someone's been taking out the old heroes. Some quit, some vanished, some sold out, some got offed before the story even began. Street Fighter: The Later Years also took a similar (but much more lighthearted) approach to this concept.

Annnd it's been pulled everywhere on orders from Saban

Managed to grab it before the takedown. I''m sure others did the same

Didn't manage to grab the NSFW one from Vimeo... Had it open in my Firefox tabs, kept it to watch the day after, and that day after turned out to be the one when Vimeo had it taken down...

i loved it, if this was what they would make power rangers like, then i would enjoy them as much as i did as a kid when they first started, but from the looks of it i dont think this is the way seban will ever take it.

I watched Mighty Morphin, Alien, and Zeo. They were all cool. After that the quality declined FAST.
I wouldn't mind they made another movie of Mighty Morphin to reboot the whole thing with an updated cast, sfx, costumes and new actors but with the exact same formula.

It doesn't have to change all that much.

Either ditch the spandex and go with proper armor made to withstand actual punching and kicking:

Or simply go with a more adult themed approach (again with armour though):

This fan film has attracted a lot of controversy. Saban demanded that the film be pulled due to copyright infringement. And there may be a lawsuit.

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Powe...t-Important-Lawsuits-Movie-History-69992.html

If this does go to trial and Saban wins, it could be a very damaging sign for what's to come for all fan-related works on the Internet.

On the one hand, the people involved are not making any money on this, so Saban shouldn't be so upset. On the other hand, it sounds like there's a lot of racy material in this project (I haven't yet seen it myself), so Saban may just be trying to protect the brand's image and not scar younger viewers. A copyright infringement claim is just an easier way to get immediate action from a video hosting site. I'm not saying that I like it so much as saying that I kind of understand it a bit.

It's a fan film, not a fan edit.

Yeah, although the ones pulled were alternative cuts that left in or left out some boobies.

Although you just gave me a few ideas
