I bought it mainly for "Shoot High Aim Low". Also, my purchases are currently limited to what I can find in thrift stores and the like, which sucks 'cause thrift stores have jackshit.

I probably should check that out. With my luck, though, I'd just find more of the same.

Woo boy! I digitized my collection over 15 years ago. I’m a music junkie and I’m nearly 49 years old. Here is what my collection consists of:

C412-ECBE-073-E-4-BBE-AFFF-62822-E319-C0-E.jpg

I don’t think I’ll list everything as that works out to 4221 individual albums.

Great thread idea!

While I'm not up to Moe's level, I do have 4,084 songs in Google Music, which has caused more than one person to stare at me and ask how and why I own so many songs. :D Of course, some of them are podcasts (which are free). But a lot of them came from the ability to purchase just a song here or there once digital downloads became a thing. For most of my adult life, I haven't been able to justify an expensive trip out of town (for instance), but I could usually justify buying a song or two for $1 to help perk up my week (although it usually turned into a full $16 CD, plus buying the disc to burn it on, so it ran into some money after a while).

My tastes are hilariously all over the map. Here's how Google breaks down the most tracks that I have:

Soundtrack  - 765 songs (I listen to music mostly at work, and instrumentals are the least distracting. Plus, I just love John Williams, Alan Silvestri, etc.)
Classic Rock - 721 songs (mostly the Monkees)
Contemporary Christian - 604 songs (A lot of these are from the '80s and '90s; the production values weren't always the greatest, but I still have fondness for them. Some of you may recognize Stryper or Sixpence None the Richer--very different stylistically, but both had some mainstream popularity back in the day.)
Audio Drama - 236 tracks (Admittedly, a lot of the tracks are individual chapters of a single story.)
Comedy - 224 tracks (mostly Weird Al Yankovic and Bill Cosby. ... I don't really listen to the Bill Cosby tracks anymore.)
Rock - 221 songs
TV Tunes - 182 songs (distinct from soundtracks because these have often singing in them, i.e. theme songs, or something Scott Bakula sang on Quantum Leap)
'80s Pop/Rock - 174 songs
Alternative - 125 songs (Anything that was released in the '90s feels "alternative" to me. I think I might have Hootie & the Blowfish under this.)
Pop - 124 songs
Christmas - 110 songs

The remaining genres all have less than 100 songs in them.

I used to drive my coworkers nuts (not on purpose) when I would randomize my playlist. I already liked all the songs, and I enjoy the variety and surprise of not knowing what would play next. But they kept saying to me, "Look, just PICK a genre and stay with it already!"  :D But when it was their turn, they would choose a radio station that played the same five ear-stabbing songs every single hour for 8 hours, so I didn't feel too bad about it.  :p

Ha! Well for me it’s been about having an open mind for music and a somewhat obsessive tendency to fixate. For example, I’ve gone through multi-year fixations with jazz and classical (the jazz one lasted about five years of listening to almost nothing but jazz and studying jazz at Manhattan School of Music). And I’ve found public libraries to be wonderful resources especially for jazz and classical. But, while my library is predominantly the American rock music I’ve grown up with—both stuff that was around before I was born and stuff right up until the modern era and including things as diverse as fusion, metal, and hip hop in that genre label—I would say I have a very good representative collection from a myriad of genres. I’ve even gone on (albeit more brief) kicks of Indian and Tibetan or African or even Gregorian Chant music.
