I personally for example don't use a VPN. How do fellow faneditors approach this? Do you simply share google drive links and passwords to people who PM you privately?
 
Yes, all link info is shared via PM. The decision of how and where is completely up to the editor. There are many people who advocate for particular delivery options, but I'd recommend doing what is right for you.
