Blue, I am disappointed in you. You used the Superman style opening credits instead of the scrolling text version...I'd have thought the latter would have made a lot more sense. Boo! :D

Edited to add: Just want to make sure that the very joking tone this is meant in comes across. You know how it is.

Work has already began on it. Should be semi-easy as most of the work is already done.

Semi-easy is about right. The BD transfer is rather different from the DVD that blueyoda used. I wrote an Avisynth script synchronizing the UK BD to the fanedit so I could watch it in HD. It should be possible for blueyoda (or anyone else) to simply mux in the audio from the fanedit. (I think that the video on the Australian disc is the same, as they are both MPEG-2, but I cannot confirm this.)

Code:
BD=mpeg2source()#.BilinearResize(720,480).Info()
Black=BlankClip(BD, length=3, color=$000000)
BD2=Black++BD.TRIM(0,3869)++BD.TRIM(3892,7693)++BD.Trim(7693,7694)++BD.Trim(7694,7696)++BD.Trim(7696,7698)++BD.Trim(7698,7700)++BD.Trim(7700,7702)++BD.Trim(7702,7799)++BD.Trim(7801,8250)++BD.Trim(8250,8252)++BD.Trim(8254,12380)++BD.Trim(12375,14419)++BD.Trim(14421,23430)++BD.Trim(23461,27957)++BD.Trim(27957,27958)++BD.Trim(27958,27958)++BD.Trim(27958,27958)++BD.Trim(27958,27958)++BD.Trim(27958,33125)++BD.Trim(33125,33181)++BD.Trim(33183,34180)++BD.Trim(34174,34180)++BD.Trim(34174,34734)++BD.Trim(34736,38056)++BD.Trim(38067,48831)++BD.Trim(48831,48832)++BD.Trim(48832,48833)++BD.Trim(48833,48834)++BD.Trim(48834,48835)++BD.Trim(48835,48836)++BD.Trim(48836,52007)++BD.Trim(52007,52007)++BD.Trim(52007,52007)++BD.Trim(52007,52007)++BD.Trim(52007,63804)++BD.Trim(63804,63804)++BD.Trim(63804,63804)++BD.Trim(63804,63804)++BD.Trim(63804,63804)++BD.Trim(63804,63804)++BD.Trim(63804,63804)++BD.Trim(63804,70896)++BD.Trim(70891,78860)++BD.Trim(78850,78860)++BD.Trim(78850,80467)++BD.Trim(80467,80468)++BD.Trim(80468,80469)++BD.Trim(80469,80470)++BD.Trim(80470,80471)++BD.Trim(80471,88842)++BD.Trim(88842,88842)++BD.Trim(88842,88842)++BD.Trim(88842,88842)++BD.Trim(88842,88842)++BD.Trim(88842,90548)++BD.Trim(90548,90548)++BD.Trim(90548,90548)++BD.Trim(90548,90548)++BD.Trim(90548,90548)++BD.Trim(90548,90548)++BD.Trim(90548,96778)++BD.Trim(96776,100643)++BD.Trim(100643,100643)++BD.Trim(100643,109022)++BD.Trim(109022,109257)++BD.Trim(109259,109674)++BD.Trim(109674,109682)++BD.Trim(109682,109682)++BD.Trim(109682,109682)++BD.Trim(109682,109682)++BD.Trim(109682,109682)++BD.Trim(109682,109683)++BD.Trim(109685,109698)++BD.Trim(109698,114690)++BD.Trim(114690,122038)
#AOTS=mpeg2source().TFM().TDecimate().Info()
#last=Stackvertical(BD2,AOTS)
#return last
return BD2

To take a look for yourself, delete the hashes. Where the BD has more frames, the script deletes them. Where the DVD has more frames, the script carefully duplicates frames. The two transfers often go out of sync by a frame when there is a shot change, only to go back in sync when the shot changes again i.e. almost straight away; where this is this case, the script makes no changes. It's animation so no one will notice the duplicated frames; in fact, compared to the BD, the DVD sometimes has frames duplicated up to six times (even in sequences with motion)!

Take it or leave it!

Now I'm curious! I understand that you'll be removing score that it was not possible to remove the first time round, but will you also be re-editing some sequences? (I did notice a little bit of the original score at about 1:10:44. EDIT: This is the word "Dare!" and might already have been noted.)

I loved the alternate coronation extra. It really made me laugh. :)

The new Sony one has a 5.1 track but the music bleeds into the center channel. The only DVD that has a "clean" center track is the UK released "Reconstructed" DVD. Except for two scenes, unfortunately.

This must be the Reconstructed DVD by Metrodome. Have you tried all the releases? There were at least four in the UK alone, according to dvdcompare.

Hello, first post.
I stumbled across this site ages ago but never really ventured to far into downloading, reviewing or editing.

Just wanted to say I really enjoy the youtube vid's you posted for this (debateable) edit.

I love doing music-only edits. I tend to do them more than video editing.

Really looking forward to seeing your project from begining to end. I can only imagine the music you'd use for certain scenes :D

Huge fan of both Transformers/Star Wars.

I was curious about this. About which version has a good center channel.
I must look into this UK release.
Watching movies with just the center channel is just as fun as replacing original music.

Substracting music needs the exact same audio, with the same frequencies, same volume, ect.
Finding an instrumental version of the movie does not means that you can substrac it to the original audio. Even if your hearing tells you that it's the same music, it sure ain't at the same volume, ain't going to start exactly at the same moments and the whole thing was sure not encoded with the exact same compression. Meaning it won't work.
You can try. But prepare yourself for a letdown.

There's also the problem if some of the dialog matches the frequencies of the music to be removed.
Most of the time, if you do get the timing and volume right, you'll still lose bits of dialog.
This can be masked by using really advanced programs to remove the music via "fingerprinting".
Options should include some sort of echo feedback.

With Adobe Audition CS5, you can edit the audio through the spectral viewer.
Select the frequency area and scrub out surround areas to try and make the best of what you can.

And then there's filters you can apply.

I'd think trying to remove everything but dialog/sfx would be more painstaking than applying a new soundtrack to a whole movie.

I tried it once, got tired and just decided to mask the new music over the old music. Barely hear the difference.
(Used equilizer settings to drop the bass frequencies of the music.)

Good luck, and hope this turns out to be an actual Fan Edit in the eyes of many.
Audio editing is just as much a part of any edit as video.
It's just visual alterations are much more pleasing.

You need to give the stormtrooper an energon goodie and use the universal greeting.

The scrolling text version is godawful. You know that. I'm disappointed in you for suggesting it.

Captain Khajiit, thanks for that script! I'm also amazed you cought that "Dare!". I did my best to hide it - I was hoping nobody would notice it but obviously I underestimated our fine community :)

And yes, the source I used for the audio is the Reconstructed DVD by Metrodome. I have owned all versions of the dvd (both US and UK) and it's the only one with a clean center channel track.

Captain Khajiit, thanks for that script!

You're welcome. Let me know if you need me to write a more detailed breakdown of where the two transfers go out. I don't own Metrodome's Reconstructed DVD release, but online reviews mention that this release is an NTSC-to-PAL conversion and has blended frames. Obviously you converted it. Did you use Srestore()?

You seem to have had even more versions of this film than I have of The Last of the Mohicans! I still have the old R2 release from Prism because it's 4:3 and because I like the way it looks: the colors seem more-or-less stable. I imagine that it's equivalent to the Rhino release, but I have never seen that. For anyone interested in the different transfers of this film, this review is exceptional.

I'm also amazed you cought that "Dare!". I did my best to hide it - I was hoping nobody would notice it but obviously I underestimated our fine community :)

If it hadn't been for the fact that I watched this film a ridiculous number of times when young, can virtually play it back in my head, and was expecting the word there, I probably would not have noticed.

Like Uncanny Antman, I do actually like the old scrolling text, but that would have made the script more difficult to write, so I'm glad that you didn't use it. (It does fit with the Star Wars theme though.) EDIT: It looks as though the Antman beat me to pointing this out.

I cannot wait for your second version! :D

I like the text scroll, it's the version I had on VHS as a kid. Granted it is a cheap rip-off of Star Wars, but Victor Caroli is great. I love how he says "maniacal Megatron". I was disappointed that the bluray only had US cut. The end voice over is good too, "Optimus Prime will return".

Now it does mean that the main theme is interrupted, but I think it does a good job of hiding how obviosly chopped up it is.

Just for the record, I actually don't like the scrolling opening (even though it's the one I grew up on) it was only the shameless SW styling of it that made me expect it. :)

Rebue:

The John Williams score works far better than the original music. It seems pretty wild that changing the music could raise the movie’s dignity (not as outlandish as it sounds!) as well as the fun factor, but there you go.

Blueyoda manages to match the mood of a scene to a particular Star Wars musical piece, and it’s delightful to watch/listen how well they fit together.
