Top Ten Movies

"x out of x balls" is an OT.com joke, their standard rating system for movie reviews.

Except the original was 8 balls.  7 balls, 8 balls, whatever it takes.

Most of these are not movies so if we could get back to topic please, thank you.

Are we being that pedantic?

Yes we are.

If it makes you feel better, it was directed at everyone, you just happened to be the last to post before I said something.

And since Dom is the OP, he can move this to Off Topic and open up the subject if he likes.

I'd prefer we stick to movies, thanks. Including TV would make for too many bad opinions for a single thread to handle.

Sometimes I think we need to bring back the dislike button.

Considering the fact that John Williams has scored 28 Spielberg films (many of which most would agree are among his best works), it is in no way unreasonable that someone would have 6 of their top 10 be Spielberg films. In fact you could make a list where all 10 are Spirlberg films your comment would still be ridiculous.

Didn't see the part about "Top 10 John Williams Soundtracks" at the very top. It looked like a top 10 movies list. Which was why I jokingly made the comment. A person may like whatever they choose. It's no one's business but their own.

I hope that my comment don't seem so ridiculous now. I'm not sure how I missed that. I got an alert for this top ten movies thread and just automatically assumed those were his top ten movies.

Based on this "new to me" information, I agree with the original poster to a large degree.

David Lynch's feature films, from top favourite to least favourite:

  1. Lost Highway
  2. Eraserhead
  3. The Straight Story
  4. The Elephant Man
  5. Blue Velvet
  6. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
  7. Wild at Heart
  8. Dune
  9. Mulholland Drive
  10. Inland Empire

Does somebody besides me actually like ten of David Lynch's films? Awesome! In order from most liked to least liked (which I still like more than 70% of the films made).

1. The Elephant Man
2. Blue Velvet
3. Dune
4. Lost Highway
5. Fire Walk With Me
6. Mullholland Drive
7. Wild at Heart
8. Eraserhead
9. Inland Empire
10. All others...

I have to say that I believe that several fanedit greatly improved the experience of watching these movies and are, in my opinion, far superior to the originals. In order those would be:

1. Northwest Passage by Q2: This is my number one David Lynch movie. I can't begin to describe how much I like this version. I have watched it seven times.

2. Fire Walk With Me Theresa Banks and The Last Seven Days of Laura Palmer by Q2: This would also be in my top 3 for the same reason.

3. Dune The Alternative Edition Redux by Spicediver: This would be number 2 if I could have ranked it. I have always loved the flawed theatrical release of this movie. This fanedit made that movie seem so much more like I always saw the book in my head. One of the best fanedits available in my opinion.

4.  Blue Velvet Q2 Extended Edition by Q2: This much more comprehensive version of this freaky movie would also land in my top 5.

Naked Lunch's a Cronenberg film.

It most certainly is. My mistake. I knew that. I always get that and Eraserhead confused because I watched them both at the same time my first time. I will edit.

You didn't even list 10 movies. The Straight Story is really good, I recommend that you give it a watch some time.

9. Maps To The Stars
10. Dead Ringers

The Matrix
The Silence of the Lamb
The Shining
Inception

I saw it mentioned in the original post. Not sure why I haven't watched it yet. I couldn't list it because I hadn't seen it. I mentioned that I liked ten because I was counting Q2's amazing fanedit "Northwest Passage" a film in my original statement. Thanks!

Obviously, a top ten list sans Cronenberg and Lynch?

Having watched DARK PHOENIX this weekend, bringing to a close FOX's era with the franchise, I thought I would try to rank the X-Men movies.  I have purposely omitted the Deadpool movies.

My Weakest to Best List:

10.  APOCALYPSE -- CGI disaster porn with no soul
 9.  X-MEN ORIGINS:  WOLVERINE -- fun until the 3rd act
 8.  DARK PHOENIX  -- a valiant attempt to return to it's character comic roots that misses the mark
 7.  LAST STAND -- a sidelined Phoenix adaptation that I still find very entertaining
 6.  THE WOLVERINE -- a grieving Logan in Japan, works for me!
 5.  FIRST CLASS -- refreshing and fun, groovy baby!
 4.  DAYS OF FUTURE PAST -- truly epic!
 3.  LOGAN  -- continuity be damned, a gut wrenching final chapter!
 2.  X-MEN 2 UNITED -- bigger and slicker without losing character

#1.  X-MEN -- the original that started it all, an under rated masterpiece!

:D

^^^^ I still haven't seen The Wolverine - people keep telling me to avoid it. I find it interesting that it's the same director as Logan, which gets about as much praise as the former gets hate. They look to me like very different films.

Still umming and ahhing about whether to go see Dark Phoenix. I don't like going solo at the cinema, and I'm not sure I can find someone to come along who I wouldn't have to drag.

X2, DOFP and Logan are my top 3 for sure, but I need to rewatch Logan and X2 to decide where they fit. I also quite enjoy X3. I don't think it's nearly as bad as people make it out to be.
