THX 1138: The Hybrid Cut (by TM2YC)

Personally, I get more from detailed reviews than the one line, "Attaboy!" posts.

This is especially true when the reviewer is an editor himself and can point out technical aspects.

What are you talking about? The review is on IFDb. It's up to the individual if they want to duplicate it here or not. You can go to IFDb if you want to read it.

We should be praising people who write reviews, not complaining that they don't post them in two places.

Chill. All Vultural said was he appreciates people writing reviews longer than one sentence. Nowhere did he complain about not re-posting it in the thread.

As evidenced by cuddly's response, that was not evident. So if nothing else, it should have been worded better.

Are you suggesting I put the full review in the thread? I used to do that but wasn't sure if it was excessive . . .

Absolutely not. I was thanking you for writing detailed reviews at DB.
Duplicating a review here at FE strikes me as redundant.
Thank you for asking and not jumping to conclusions.

And on the other side of the coin, not everyone reads IFDb. Nothing wrong with posting a review in both places.

Plus, on top of all this, the edit was pretty great. :)

I just watched this, excellent work TM2YC!!! Here is the review I left on IFDb:

This was a real treat. TM2YC has done an excellent job recreating the theatrical cut with the highest quality material. A few shots stand out in terms of color and clarity, but the faneditor has done an excellent job trying to make things gel as seamlessly as possible. Some of the transitions between sources is quite impressive. This is my go-to version of the film now. Thanks!

A couple shots could have used a bit more color work (seemed a bit more yellow compared to the BD footage), but really that was a minor complaint. You did an excellent job weaving between sources.

Thanks for the review ThrowgnCpr. Very happy it's your "go-to version"... until hopefully a proper restoration is released.

Any particular shot you remember?

I'd love to see an official restoration, but knowing George, it ain't gonna happen.

This scene in particular:

blu-ray on top, laserdisc(?) footage on bottom

The white balance is a bit off. The wall is more red, while the skin-tone is shifted slightly to yellow. I must clarify, that this is minor, and in no way affected my enjoyment of the film. You did a great job getting things very close. If you were to go further, shifting the highs from red to cyan would help, and then selectively shifting the remaining red/yellows further into red would help. Here is a quick stab at what that might look like:

It could probably use a bit more tweaking. You've done most of the work for me though :)

^ Oh, the grade on some of the laserdisc shots? Yeah, those were a total b*tch to get right in a few places. Especially when it was just skin and white walls. Some shots I broke up into several layers, so I could grade different parts seperately.

Yep, I imagine it sucked working on that. Overall, great work.

Hi everybody ! My first time here, so sorry if I don't understand properly how things are working ! I'm looking for a way to find TM2YC's cut, which seems amazing, but I don't exactly know if the file is still available somewhere -or maybe I don't have access yet, being a newbie ?

I'll keep reading the forum to be sure I'm not missing something, but don't hesitate to fill me in (even to just call me birdnames for being such a loser).

Thanks !
