yep, you are right. Here is a screenshot from virtualdub, adjusted for 16:9 display. This has the resize filters (Lanczos algorithm) for NTSC widescreen. I think it looks pretty good considering the source, and would be a big improvement for widescreen TVs.

PDVD_002bLanczos.jpg

Note, I just used resize filters. If this were my video, I would probably work with some other filters too, including Levels to improve the picture even more.

if it is also converted to NTSC it shouldnt look so bad.

Why would it need converting to NTSC? These are UK specials which would mean that they were shot in PAL, right?

2 reasons to convert this to NTSC:

1) You are converting it anyway since you have to go from 4:3 letterboxed to anamorphic widescreen. Everyone in the world can play NTSC. Not everyone can play PAL. By making it NTSC you are making your audience a lot bigger

2) NTSC resolution is slightly smaller than PAL 480 vs 576. So you wont be stretching the picture as much during the conversion and avoiding potentially more artifacts.

Been working on converting the rest of my stuff for this project this weekend. I've still got some stuff left to get converted but it looks like it'll end up being 7 discs. Disc 4 is only 3.43 GB's so I'm trying to see if there's anything else that I can add to it to make it a little fuller. For disc 5 I was hoping to include the trailers, tv spots, tv clips, tv commercials and movie reviews but so far with everything but the reviews I've already got 3.99 GB's and the reviews total 1.41 GB's.

I'm going to put the movie reviews on disc 6 along with some featurettes and a Canadian special, if I can get the synching issue fixed. That should bring the disc to about 3.8 or so I think. Disc 7 will be contain stuff for the video games, the ride and something else but I forget what. I'll keep everyone updated.

Just a warning for disc 4. There's a slight sync issue with the three Omelete interviews. The original videos are fine but the sync issue occured when converting. I tried re-converting them and that didn't work so I tried fixing it with TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress but that didn't work either so I decided to leave it as is. It's only out of sync by a split second and at times it appears like it may be in sync. I hope it won't be too much of a bother to anyone.

cool.

About sync issues... Sometimes they are unavoidable in conversion. I had a hell of a time with one of the videos for my Python Chronicles vol1. But they are ALWAYS fixable. What I generally do now, if I have a sync issue that persists, is convert the video, add the converted file to Sony Vegas (or any other good editing software), and tweek the audio so that its perfect with the video. Export audio only, and remux that with your converted video file.

Is this still offline? I can upload the old volumes if so.

Also, FC, are you still working on this? In one of your previous posts, you mentioned this would be a 7-disc set. Just curious :)

OK, I'll look through them. I recall that some had issues with letterboxing. Might hold off on those, but I can upload others.

No, I'm not still working on this. I still have the source files for the remaining content, but I'm not working on it. Kind of lost a little interest in the whole thing.

thanks for the update :) would you be willing to pass on the material to someone else if they were interested in continuing the project? I don't really have the time right now, but someone might, and it would be good to keep it going
