Uploading to usenet is pretty pretty straightforward, and anyone who has uploaded to a digital locker should be able to understand this fairly easily. Because of this I wonât go into great detail unless its warranted.
The main thing you should know about usenet is that free providers, unlike digital lockers, are far and few between. If youâre looking for a free service this is a negative point. However, the positive greatly outweigh the minimum cost:
One other thing to note: with NewsDemon you will have to request posting access. This is easily done through the members control panel. I donât know if other providers require this, so be aware if youâre having trouble posting that this may be the problem.
To upload your fanedit to usenet you will need a couple of programs:
1.) Archive your fanedit using WinRAR. For usenet its best to break the archive into 50MB chunks. No fear though, as the program I will discuss later reassembles everything much like JDownloader does.
2.) Once you have your RAR files open QuickPar. Click Add Files and select your RAR files. Leave the default settings of QuickPar and click the Create button.
This will take a little time, 5 - 20 min. depending on the number of files. Once its done click the Verify button to ensure the PAR2 file was created properly. If no errors are reported youâre good to go. On rare occasions I have gotten a FAILED error. If that happens just try creating the PAR2 file again and it usually works. I donât know why the error happens, but usually the second time is the charm. Again, this doesnât happen often.
3.) Now its time to create an SFV file. This file can help verify the integrity of uploaded files. While not required for downloading or decompressing files it's good insurance. To create an SFV file is simple: go into the directory where all your RAR and PAR files are and select them all. Then, right-click and click Create SFV File. Name it what you want and create. This process doesn't take a long time, usually a minute or two
4.) Next we want to create an NFO file so people know exactly what these files are. So run Cool Beans NFO Creator and fill in what you can or want. If something you want isnât in the drop down menus just add it yourself. Once youâre satisfied with the details click the Preview .nfo tab for a look at what the NFO file will look like. If youâre happy with it then click File, then Save As.
5.) Now weâre ready to upload our files to usenet. The best program Iâve found is Camelsystemâs Powerpost. Start it.

- gives users a choice of the provider they want to use, and not force them to use a specific digital locker provider
- because their is a cost to usenet access you are guaranteed a fast transfer
- minimum 3 year retention for your edits

- The first time using the program you will have to configure it. Click Options, then Program Settings. Add your Host information, Port, Username and Password.
- Click Queue, then Add Files to Queue and first choose your RAR files, the NFO file, the SFV file, and the PAR2 files, then click the Open button.
- Now we want to give our upload a unique name so people know exactly what it is if browsing usenet. You should see something like:
(????) [$1/$2] - "$F" yEnc
Change ONLY the ???? in the parentheses. Example:
(Adywan Star Wars Revisited 720p) [$1/$2] - â$Fâ yEnc
- Click the Newsgroups tab. Click the Add New Newsgroup button and type:
alt.binaries.fan-editsalt.binaries.movies, then click the OK button. Now check the box next to our newly added newsgroup.
- Click the Checksums and NZB tab. Make sure Create .NZB file is checked and type in a path and filename. I usually leave it what I used in the Header in 4.3, removing âpartâ from the name, but you can do as you please. Then click the OK button
- If everything looks good in your Queue click Posting, then Start Posting. Your files will now start uploading the usenet. Now all you need to do is sit back and wait.
