The Mini-Series version of The Hunger Games with a new ethereal/ dreampop soundtrack

Intent :
This first started out as a Mockingjay fanedit, but there was so much excellent material I thought it would be a shame to cut anything from it, so I began to deconstruct the 4 films into 50 min episodes instead, with a beginning, middle, and cliffhanger ending and updating the music as I wasn't too fond of the 'Last of Us' type score during dramatic scenes.

Files are 1080p HEVC 10mbps vbr with 5.1 AAC audio.
Special Thanks : digmodification for Fanedit logo.
Tools Used : Magix Vegas 19

Part 1 (Series 1)
Episode 1
- The Reaping (complete w/ Eng subs) 59:35
Episode 2 - The Hunger Games (complete w/ Eng subs) 54:39
Episode 3 - The Victors (complete w/ Eng subs) 57:18
Episode 4 - The Quarter Quell (complete w/ Eng subs) 1:25:59 (Finale)

Part 2 (Series 2)
Episode 5
- Catching Fire (complete w/ Eng subs) 55:57
Episode 6 - The Hanging Tree (complete w/ Eng subs) 53:43
Episode 7 - Spark of Rebellion (complete w/ Eng subs) 1:01:45
Episode 8 - The Mockingjay (complete w/ Eng subs) [technically 1:05:15 - 12min of credits] 1:15:42 (Finale) - Includes Mid-Credit scene

Credit music :
  1. 2Cellos - Welcome to the Jungle
  2. Tears for Fears - Suffer the Children
  3. Slowdive - Go Get it
  4. This Mortal Coil - Song to the Siren
  5. Sigur Ros - Svefn-g-englar
  6. Boards of Canada - Come to Dust
  7. Crystal Castles - Child I Will Hurt You
  8. Slowdive - Blue Skied an' Clear

    Other artists :
    Episode 1: Slowdive - Beginning (part 4)
Episode 4 : Thomas Köner- Diakan (excerpt)
Episode 5 : Robin Guthrie & Harold Budd - Harlequin Delight, Outside, Silence. Robin Guthrie - Kerosine
Episode 6 : Robin Guthrie & Harold Budd - Gaze, Pleasant, if not deadly.
    Episode 7 : Aphex Twin - Rhubarb
Episode 8 : Harold Budd & John Foxx, Brian Eno, Robin Guthrie : Almost Overlooked, How Close Your Soul, First Light

Episode 1

  • Re-arranged opening scenes to introduce Katniss better.
Inserted Deleted scene of Prim's Nightmare and Gale explaining the Food Lottery system.

  • Cut the Seneca and Caesar scene during the opening.

  • Removed shot of Effie so she's introduced on the microphone first instead.

  • Removed Katniss watching the games on TV, thought it ruined the surprise of
what the games are going to be like from Peetas and her POV + the audiences.

  • Removed all the scenes/introduction to that forced Cato as the main villain.
Episode 2
  • Removed all the shots of Woody Harrelson to make him sympathetic.

  • Removed the announcers in a couple scenes so Katniss and the viewer discovers how to disarm the traps

  • Removed Peeta's makeup plotline and Rue introduction

Episode 3:
  • Removed shot of Seneca during the Dog chase, it broke up the tension.

  • Episode 3, starts with the canon going off and Katniss looking for Peeta.

  • Removed morning after scene

  • Removed Cato speech

  • Removed Effies comedy scene about gold items

  • Removed Woody's character line
    "Them! What about them?"

  • Condensed the Party scene, cut the long walk to get to the party.

  • Condensed The New Gamemaker character introduction (Phillip Seymour Hoffman)

  • Removed the first meeting with Plutarch and President Snow,
their dialog was too over the top(floggings and weddings etc imo)

  • Deleted scene added : Snows dialog about what the Mockingjay is and what Mutts are has been re-inserted, color corrected and music mixed

  • Removed Haymitch throwing his bottle at a hologram TV.

  • Removed Katniss line "...Peeta." while shes crying in the snow

Episode 4

  • Effie gets right to what the Quarter Quell is instead of a comedy bit.

  • Cut scene of Beetee and partner laughing like idiots.

  • Deleted scene added : Fennick rope scene in the training room, with proper music mix

  • Cut Katniss Bow Hologram Practice Scene (action porn), we already know shes a good hunter
it's just over-kill for her character at this point for the viewer.

  • Cut Beetees intro on stage.

  • Cut Katniss line about Peeta.

  • Cut audio ramblings that ruin the surprise on the other side of the door

  • Cut Katniss angry expression (which originally lead to a Mockingjay Part 1 teaser animation)

Episode 5

  • Added on screen forced narratives for all of the Districts (this film jumps around a lot, and it's needed)
Tried to match the font that was used in the first film

  • Cut opening, Episode starts with Katniss and Prim in the hospital room and then she is asked to meet with President Coin,
also cut Katniss meeting Gale in the hangar, it jumps to the Hunger Games title card then to the jet taking off, after Coin says "Sure, let her go"

  • Deleted scene added : Katniss leaving District 12 with Buttercup and taking off in the hovercraft with Gale.

  • Removed audio line of Katniss saying "you're alive" it works better with her just mouthing it while she's watching the TV screen.

  • Deleted scene added : BeeTee trying to contact other Districts with his radio to join the rebellion.

  • Trimmed President Snow seeing Katniss on the monitor, now the attack is a surprise instead of him explaining it.

  • Re-arranged the speech scene, cut the propaganda video of Katniss, it cuts from Katniss crying on the battlefield to Coin introducing The Mockingjay and saying they will be showing the video later tonight in the Capitol, the message is still conveyed that she (Katniss) hates what she's doing and seeing through the cracks.

  • Cut Fennick line to Katniss during Snow's speech about the propaganda piece.

Episode 6
  • Bombing of District 7 starts the episode

  • Deleted scene added : Cut and trimmed this scene of Cressida being very tone deaf and media-centric to the filming the bombing site.

  • New music by Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie during Gales speeches.

  • Condensed the Hanging Tree song at the lake, it goes on too long, now she sings a few lines and it cuts to them gloating over the
    the propaganda video they edited.

  • Removed the rebels singing the Hanging Tree song completely.

  • Cut the shot of Katniss running to the kitchen to yell for Prim. It makes no sense for this scene to be there, as she already assumes she's with her mom in the next scene.
Episode 7
  • Re-arranged the shots during Peeta asking for a nightlock pill and cut his line saying Katniss called him a mutt, Gale says if it gets too bad he'll shoot him himself (this ends the episode).

Episode 8
  • Cut Katniss loading up the pill

  • Trimmed up the two brothers dialog in the sewer

  • Deleted scene added : Gale getting sewed up

  • Cut Peeta and Gale talking about Katniss while shes laying 5 feet away

  • Removed Epilogue and created a mid-credit scene with it instead (no dialog)

This looks like a great edit. Some wonderful music choices - i love Slowdive and Tears for Fears whom i've both seen many times. Sigur Ros and Boards of Canada aren't too shabby either. Your TP edit was top so i'm looking forward to having a butchers to see how this turns out.

I like your idea, but I have a couple of suggestions for episode titles. You currently have two episodes titles "The Mockingjay", which is obviously a problem. I would suggest changing Episode 2 to "The Hunger Games", episode 4 to "Catching Fire" and leaving Episode 8 as "Mockingjay" to re-use the book titles.

I'd agree with astrixsmeagol on the titles. Catching Fire is probably the on one idea go with. If you like Mockingjay for the earlier episode, some ideas for the Finale could be:
Rise of the Mockinjay (echoing that Katnis will rise to her ultimate purpose)
Falling Snow (a word play on the plot)
End (simple yet clear)
Everdeen (the hidden message that this is ultimately about Katnis and her return to being herself and leaving behind the Mockingjay)

That was just a typo, I wrote this up pretty late. I'll update it.

Have you developed an intro credits for the series?
No, it's an opening title card that's very basic (just like the one used in the film and similar font) and gets right to business. Some of those movies don't even have an opening title card or credits, just an ending one. I think the brief card works.

I'm a bit partial to opening credits, but that looks and feels pretty slick. Do you think there might be an opportunity to add a 30-60 second intro after the first event occurs? It's a totally selfish request as I'll be compelled to follow through on my idea to do so if not 😅

For the credits in Episode 1, did you mean for the audio to just suddenly end after the Lionsgate logo? Wondering if the music could be edited to have it naturally end vs the abrupt ending. Also, the credit letters seem to have a strobing effect on them. Episode had a natural ending point.

Good catch, I guess I set my outpoint incorrectly (it had an ending card). The credits are like that on my Bluray (the strobing - ep1/ep2) I might retype them when I have more time.

Just checked 2-8, no abrupt ending. Ill fix that issue though.

I wasn't sure if the text strobe was an aesthetic you were going for or in the source. No need to change it if it's in the source. It gives that degraded feel that goes right along with the aesthetic of the movie. :)

Your edit achieves the mini series vibe very well as it is. It really felt like I was watching one of those new 8 to 10 episode shows like The Witcher or From. I've only watched the first version of the first two episodes...

Final version - [1.2] uploaded with fixes.
Fanedit Logo added to head
Re-leveled audio for 2 episodes at end credits
Re-did ending credit font for Episodes 1 and 2 (it had a strange strobing effect on the original source)
Deleted flash frame in Episode 3
Re-adjusted subtitles and fixed spelling issues.
New ending title card for each episode
Also made Trailer, it's in the OP description.
4/18
**Uploaded 2 revised files
Ep 6 my fade was missing on the logo after the FE logo (so you can see a flash frame)
Ep 3 audio was too low in one section and I adjusted it, also matte issue during a deleted scene at 50:20**
Both files should be up now.

Well, after all that I had forgotten to add a disclaimer.

Gave me time to whip up something nice and also fix up some issues that slipped through the cracks on the last batch.
Third times a charm
1.3 is now up, and should be error free.
