This week the beginning of a new project.
Dawn of the dead (1978) and Day of the dead (1985) in one movie
Dawn the european cut with the great music of goblin was one of the best zombie films i've ever seen
Day of the dead was fantastic, a great sequel after Dawn.
Now together in one movie, the happening of Dawn took place in 1978 but in my edit is Day ten years later.
Well, it's all in my twisted head:-o so see where it's going to.

I'm a big fan of both films, but I can't really see how to combine the two without it just being a jarring lurch from Dawn into Day. The satirical tone in Dawn is largely absent in Day, and the shift in protagonists will just underscore this.

What's your plan for making the two mesh?

I use those films to create my own cut
There is no Dawn or Day, there is only The Dead Walk
The opening scene is from Diary of the Dead, following by Dawn and at last Day
I use for Dawn the european cut of Dario Argento, that was for me the best version
I don't see any satire in the Dario Argento version and with the music of Goblin i think it's more serious and powerful, than the american version with that so called library music.
That version was more slapstick.
In my cut you see the virus is spreading and at the end the whole world is full of zombies.
In Day the whole world is infected with a few men left so i end with that
That is the idea behind it, so i create my own story with it.

That's scarier than any zombie movie I've seen. I don't know how I can ever drink milk again.

Still busy with this project.
A lot of cuts:

Dawn Argento version:

I cut out the whole beginning of the tv studio.
I use a segment from Diary of the dead to begin with.
Scenes of soldiers on the street and landing with the chopper for fuel is cut
Argento was responsible for the editing of the european cut, he cut out the zombie who loses the top of is head
with the blades of the chopper.
Well, i think he was right because the zombie looks fake with his "monster of frankensteins" forehead
Im a big fan of Tom Savini, the man is a master in creating horroreffects, but this zombie was truly fake.
But, like i said, the whole scene is not in this edit
Scenes with unnecessary dialogue is cut

There is a little music overdub from Day in Dawn

Day of the Dead:

Also a lot of cuts in unnecessary dialogue

There is no meeting in this edit
Cardille visithing McDermott and John in the cabin is cut
Some cuts are made to keep up with the story

Alternative ending.

I think this will be a ride of 2 hours and 40 minutes (maybe less)

I strongly suggest you stick to under 2 hours. Be creative in cutting, make this a truly unique experience, not just two condensed movies back-to-back.

Well, In Battle it was easy to stay under one hour.
Because i know Spielberg's movie from top to bottom just like Dawn and Day
Im also work on a project of the horrorfilm "It follows" (There is still no thread because its only a test)) to keep that in a one hour cut, but technically is must be right
But, like Book of the dead jou must see this as ONE movie.
This edit is not two movies back to back, it tells a story in one edit
It's easy to edit two movies together with any cuts at all but that is not the point here.
I'm always creative in cutting but the story must be right, because if jou cut to much you have (maybe) plot holes in it
And ive seen plenty mistakes in movies by professional editors.
The Shining for example.
But, this is only a workprint, ill keep it in mind man.
Im always in for a good idea.
Ill take a good look at it, maybe ill turn this project upside down to see what's happening.;-)
But for now im still busy with it (and some other things)

'It Follows' doesn't come out here on disc until the 14th. Great film. I just did a fanedit using that score because it's brilliant.

Back on topic, I'm looking forward to this. I get what Neg was saying. Usually when a 2 in 1 is like 3 hours, there's so much of each movie that no matter how seamlessly blended, it's going to feel like two distinct narrative arcs. Shooting for 2 hours may force you to make hard cuts but will probably work better for the viewer. I haven't seen the edit so that's all conjecture, though.

A lot of work to recut this one.
Thanks to the inspirators Neglify and thecuddlyninja i recut this print and (for now) the print is 30 minutes
shorter than the first workprint.
The "Dawn" segment is like a rollercoaster i think, but i'm not done yet.
It's difficult to put Dawn and Day in a one hour cut, but i'm close to it.
I'm trying to recut this thing in a full horror action packed edit.
The happening of this story is in New York, Pittsburgh, and Florida

This release comes in august the same time with the full metal jacket edit (Born to kill)

The Dead Walk is almost done
It was a hell of a job to trim this in a approx 2 hours cut but i did it

There are a lot of cuts in both movies, to many to write down but most important cuts are:

Dawn:

TV studio is cut
Zombie basement scene is cut
Street soldiers and zombie chopper scene is cut
Many cuts in dialogue scenes
In this edit is Ross not pregnant, you see in the end of the Dawn segment her belly a little fatter , maybe
to much junkfood.
The Dawn segment is like a rollercoaster, there is no "quite" moment.
In the truck scene Reiniger forgot his bag, (original) in this cut he doesn't, i recut this all in one take when he moves to the truck of Foree
In the original flyboy starts to shoot at the motergang, but in this edit Foree is the one who begins to shoot

Day:

In the first workprint is Day ten years later as Dawn, but i changed it to five.
In the original day there's not a whole lot of action but in this cut i try to put the action on top,
so also a lot of cutting in unnecessary dialogue
There is no meeting in this edit, also no visiting of Cardille in the cabin of McDermott and John
Dileo is the friend of Cardille in the original but in this cut you don't see it
His character is collapsing from stress, i used that to make him totaly crazy

At the moment i work on the music overdub.

I would suggest starting an Ideas thread, otherwise this thread could easily get off-topic if people start asking about all the other stuff you mentioned.
