Original First Post (February 2021)

Who doesn't need another TASM2 edit with all of the current ones running around on the internet. My own cut does what most edits do, which is cut the Parker Parental subplot, the train and plane stuff, bad jokes, needless divirtions from the story, etc.

Most of my cutlist is borrowed from EXPOED's Reworked edit. I won't be using any of his material directly, but using his cutlist and edit as a reference point.

CUTLIST
- Reverted opening logos back to their original soundtrack, as opposed to the film's soundtrack which leads into the opening scene
- Film now opens with Norman/Harry Osbourne, but the scene has been cut to remove the scotch story and something about forgiveness
- Removed opening scene of the Parkers on the run aboard their private plane
- Cut shakey GoPro footage of Aleksei Sytsevich colliding with police cars
- Cut GoPro shot of Aleksei crushing a police car with the stolen Oscorp vehicle
- "SPYDAH MAN!" Hello pedestrians!
- Cut Aleksei firing his machine gun into a crowded city street while attempting to shoot Spider-Man, the exchange between the two now ends after Aleksei reaches to grab Spidey
- Added voice-over of Spidey saying "Woah, okay!" after he dodges Aleksei's attempt to grab him
- Cut shot of Spider-Man assisting to steer the stolen Oscorp vehicle while Aleksei struggles with his jammed machine gun
- Cut Peter lying to Gwen about the sirens and the first vision of her dad
- Cut Spidey being sprayed by the wiper fluid, must be a shitty spray if it misses the glass entirely
- Cut Peter Parker saying "and my folks" when Aunt May mentions she wishes Uncle Ben could've attended Peter's graduation
- remove the first "I've gotta find my aunt" from Peter (him repeating things twice is a wierd trait)
- Cut Gwen's "I break up with you" x2, we get it enough in her other lines, we don't need it spelt out to us
- cut a bit of the Spidey-Sniffles
- Removed scene of Aunt May trying to enter Peter's room while he removes his costume
- Removed scene of Peter arguing with Aunt May when trying to wash his costume
- Max's apartment and his wierd shrine to Spider-Man, we get enough that he likes Spider-Man in the elevator and the VO during the later montage.
- Cut Max daydreaming of yelling at Alistair Smythe for joking about being Spider-Man
- Max's fake party thing in the elevator
- Max's tooth gap filling in during the Electro transformation
- Peter saying "that's the question" he repeats it twice for some reason
- Cut any mention of Peter's parents while he and Harry Osborn are skipping rocks
- Peter "Just one Spider-Man, or woman we don't really know...for sure" bad delivery of a bad joke
- trimming down the whole stalker dialogue so its made less creepy
- Spidey calling Electro "sparkles" and some dialogue from him talking about anger or something
- Electro "it's my birthday, so i'm gonna light my candles"
- Peter swinging down after the Times Square fight to have a line or two with Gwen about England, we get enough of it later
- Removed scene of Peter assembling the wall of clues and leads regarding the disappearance of his parents
- cut the Youtube scientist and simply have Peter experiment with the batteries
- Added deleted scene of Felicia Hardy greeting Peter at Oscorp, followed by Gwen entering soon after
- Harry "Does whatever a spider can", bad delivery and spelling it out too much
- Peter: "This is the most cliche hiding spot you could of picked"
- Cut Peter mentioning his parents when venting to Gwen that everything is falling apart
- Added reversed shot of Gwen listening to Peter vent from the aforementioned scene
- potentially cut all of Ravencroft to get rid of that German scientist, and the Electro naming speech, maybe trim instead
- Removed scene of Aunt May discovering Peter's investigative wall in his bedroom
- potentially cut the entire scene of Spidey visiting Harry, if not then trimming the "YOU"RE A FRAUD SPIDER-MAN" and the "everybody wants my money"
- Removed scene of Peter throwing a temper tantrum in his room and throwing his father's calculator against the wall
- Color corrected scene of Harry being fired from Oscorp to make it appear earlier in the day
- Removed scene of Peter entering the subway to investigate his father's secret lab
- Added deleted scene of Gwen visiting Peter's house to inform him that she has been accepted into Oxford
- Cut all shots of Peter watching the recorded message his father left behind
- Edited all shots of Harry breaking into Ravencroft into one cohesive montage
- Re-edited all audio present the scene of Harry breaking Electro out of Ravencroft, allowing it to flow as its own standalone scene
- Cut the german scientist from Harry's Ravencroft visit and the dialogue refering to Electro by name
- Electro: "Remember me?" to Menken, I suppose somehow he saw him while at Ravencroft, unlikely, but now that scene will probably be gone
- Removed scene of Peter leaving the subway while listening to a voicemail Gwen left him saying that she's leaving for Oxford
- Harry: "Welcome back to the bonus round, fairy godmother" all that dumb shit
- Color corrected shots of Harry walking through Oscorp and entering the elevator with Donald Menken hostage
- Cut low FPS slow-motion shots of Harry writhing on the floor while transforming into the Green Goblin
- Add some extra shots in the Goblin transformation from the deleted scene not the entire thing, but a few bits and pieces
- Added deleted scene of SWAT team members guarding the elevator exit with Menken, shots of this scene are dispersed throughout Harry's transformation
- Added deleted scene of Peter returning home only to be informed by Aunt May that Gwen stopped by earlier to say she was leaving for Oxford
- Added color corrected shots of Gwen in a cab on the bridge from an earlier scene where Peter is listening to Gwen's voicemail
- Cut Gwen telling her cab driver to stop the cab, as well as the cab driver responding with "Lady, I ain't even moving!"
- Some of the god complex dialogue from Electro and Spidey's response
- Removed scene of the airport control center reacting to the citywide blackout
- Removed scene of pilots attempting to contact the control center
- Removed scene of Aunt May in the hospital trying to work around the loss of power
- Removed scene of the airport control center realizing that two planes are on intersecting flight-paths
- Added deleted scene of Felicia talking to the Green Goblin in the now destroyed Oscorp building, this audio in this scene has been completely redone
- Removed shots of the two planes flying closer towards each other
- Removed scene where the airport worker states that there is sixty seconds to impact, as the two planes draw nearer
- Removed scene of the airport regaining power and the two planes narrowly avoid each other
- Removed scene of Aunt May's hospital regaining power
- The slow realisation that Harry notices Gwen and Spidey are in the same place at the same time, and maybe Spidey may be Peter, takes way too long for the penny to drop
- Cut jarring half-a-second long shot of Green Goblin lunging at Spider-Man
- Cut shot of the Green Goblin being knocked out where the stunt double is obvious and clearly visible
- Harry and the man in black at Ravencroft discussing the Sinister Six and Rhino
- Add some deleted shots of Peter sitting on the edge of a building, as he just thinks about things
- Removed the final battle with Rhino, the film now ends on a somber cliffhanger where Peter contemplates ending his hiatus and becoming Spider-Man again

Hopefully this whole thing makes the film less of a horrible bloated mess, but then again is the movie destined for it?

I've cut up to just after the Times Square fight, as the runtime up until there is 44 minutes compared to the theatrical's 1 hour mark, so a lot has been cut so far. Overall, I'd like to aim for about 1hr 52min, which is a hopeful prediction but not a concrete guideline.

Here's a rough cut of an ending that I made a while back that didn't have the Rhino, Harry Osborn/Man in Black or the Oscorp Origin Basement. This latest cut will ideally be somewhat similar.

Another TASM2 fanedit, not too dissimilar to EXPOED's Reworked as this borrows a lot of ideas from it.

TASM2: Spark of Life however goes a little further to re-edit action sequences with new and extended shots to allow a clearer perception of events, cut a lot of the unimportant subplots out (Parker Parents/Roosevelt, Aunt May, Oscorp/Rhino/Sinister 6, Potential Plane Incidents, etc), refocus the story on whats important, and overall trying to bring some closure to a film that intended to be a lot of setup for sequels that never got made.

CUTLIST

Here's a first go at removing the Youtube scientist from the battery testing scene. I'm mixed in the original song with the movie's SFX to try and make it sound okay as if he was never there.

Nicely done, I was viewing on my phone but the audio sounded good.

Have you seen NewSuperAvenger's TASM2 edits? He did a really good edit of the opening where he replaced Spider-Man's dialogue with Rhino and his "Your badge" with the one from the enemies trailer. Here's a link it's pretty cool.

NewSuperAvenger hangs around on the forum under the name @"WhatTheActualMark" and has shared with me a full 25 minutes of extended and unused footage that he collected from just about everything related to the movie. TV Spots, Trailers, Featurettes, Blu-Ray special features, etc.  I've started the process of incorperating a lot of the clips into the film to fix some of the horrendous editing that is present in many of the action scenes.

Here's my work on the start of the truck chase, which has had most of the action shots replaced.

And the original for comparison, a headache of angles and cross cutting.

Here's a go at Spidey and Max meeting with some alternate lines, extended shots, stuff cut and trimmed.

Thank god I could get rid of the terrible "it's on your badge thing" line from Spidey

Here's the entire opening scene. It's not 100% done yet, still needs some work but it's just polishing really. The editing is shockingly bad once I looked at it closely. I'm amazed that this made it to cinemas in this state.

And here is the cutlist for the sequence

- Added slightly extended shot of Spidey swinging through the city
- Replaced all shots of the truck ramming the barricades and police cars. Originally it was 5 shots in 2.14 seconds, now it's simply just new 2 shots borrowed from the Blu-Ray documentary
- Cut Paul Giamatti shouting his characters name and laughing maniacly. This is now replaced with an alternate take of him grumbling
- Added extended shot of the truck driving down the road
- Replaced two shots of the thugs climbing the truck with one alternate one
- Added extended shot of the truck to fill the original shot timing
- Cut Go-Pro footage of the truck running over the cop car
- Added 2 extended shots of the truck to cover the Go-Pro shot
- Cut someone yelling "SPIDER-MAN!" and Spidey's subsequent responce
- Cut Spidey's prolonged banter as he sits on top of the truck, poking his head in while Paul Giamatti shoots him
- Moved up Spidey's "woah okay" from the cut footage to the new end of the shot
- Cut Spidey steering the truck as it rams into traffit, damaging property

Love the edit and I'm glad I helped you on the footage.
If I were to change a few things about this, is to use "Your badge. Oscorp." line from Enemies Unite trailer. He seems friendlier than in the theatrical cut. Lastly is to add a few sound effects when Spidey is on the phone. Maybe the exterior car driving. I'm sure you're already on this since you said that it's not 100% done.

I'm almost done with a rough cut of the film that clocks in at 1:46. I didn't expect it to be so short and yet it is. There are still some cuts to be made and some polishing to be done, but most of the big cuts have been done.

Here's Harry and Electro coming back to Oscorp, with a lot of dumb lines being cut from Harry here

And the original for comparison

The latest and greatest attempt at the ending. I've since cut out the Peter on the rooftop bit and used it elsewhere in the edit. I've also redone the score to flow a little nicer into the credits.

Currently a rough cut has been uploaded for previewing. A lot of the added visuals have not been 100% polished yet, but I feel its watchable enough for some feedback on the story, narrative, general critiques and all that.

Please send me a PM if you would like to give feedback.

Would love to check the rough cut out! I think incorporating the footage provided by NewSuperAvenger could make this really interesting.

Having just previewed this I can say it is a very solid streamlined version of TASM2.

It deftly does away with the bloat presented by the Richard Parker mystery while enriching the Goblin plotline by resequencing some events and reinstating several deleted scenes. Multiple small edits have been made throughout according to the editors personal taste. These don't affect the narrative but do alter the tone of the edit somewhat.

As someone who is also editing The Amazing Spider-Man it was a real treat to see another person's perspective on this. For fans of the original film this edit presents a chance to see a leaner version that retains its narrative integrity while smoothly erasing one plotline. Obviously if you are a fan of the Richard Parker mystery this edit will probably be less engaging for you but for me, it really worked.

Good job Bobson.

After rewatching the edit, I've made a list of final adjustments to make before I'm happy with it, and one of them is reinserting the Ravencroft sequence as it isn't really shown for a while where Electro is.

I've cut a lot of the monologing from both Max and Dr Deutsch Sterotype, as well as the Electro namedrop, as that was already cut earlier.

I've got some other bits and pieces to fix, mainly audio, and then I will call this complete.

After looking at how bad the temp score was for the Goblin transformation scene, I've gone back and completed redone the sound mix for the scene, mixing the extended version with the theatrical to get a good mix of them both.

Last thing to do is figure out what to do with the Peter rooftop scene, as I have had no luck removing the wire so far. I've managed to upscale the scene to 4k, so that I can zoom in without losing too much detail, but I'm not sure if I will yet.

I just put the scene back where it's supposed to be, used an alternate track from the OST and cut the scene early.

The final thing now is a new title card, which is a pain since my Australian disc says "Rise of Electro" at the end where ideally I'd like a new subtitle. Not sure what it'll be yet, but I'll think of something I'm sure.

New runtime is 1:48:54
