I found one That needs to be check Out

#40589 Knockabout (1979) The Number is likely a re-Issue, but the Original Number is not Listed on filmRatings & not listed on AFI. It's available on prime video but may not contain the original Number only the re-Issue. It was made in Hong Kong so it may not have a number just a re-issue. It's included with for $1.99. It's not available on tubi but maybe someone could find it somewhere find a original release to check on it.

I found the movie on a site called AsianCrush, which from what I can find is a legal streaming service. My best guess is that the number is not a re-issue. It was probably just rated for the first time when it came time to release it on DVD over here.

I’m gonna post my list of ZERO numbers (1934-1968), which is what I’ve been working on lately. These are mostly taken from the Dutch masterlist (http://filmnummers.nl/), but enhanced by more than a few corrections and additions by yours truly.

Considering that the highest known ZERO number is #06854, out of the nearly 7,000 titles that received one of these MPA “special” certificates, this list contains a meager 865, less than 12%. A staggering SIX THOUSAND, or 88% of the total ZERO numbers remain unknown, at least to me. The longest sequence of consecutive numbers in this lists is only 6, while the constant empty gaps are enormous.

Out of these known 865, the vast majority, 659, are short films, the vast majority among these shorts are cartoons, and the vast majority among these cartoons come from one single company (Paramount) and one single studio (Famous Studios), the factory founded by the Fleischer brothers that churned out hundreds of Popeyes, Betty Boops, Little Lulus, Caspers, etc., etc.

Conspicuous exceptions from this overwhelming short film dominance are Famous Studios’ own 2 feature films (Gulliver’s Travels & Mr. Bug Goes to Town) that received both ZERO-numbered certificates in 1939 and 1941, but these duo are far from being the only feature films in the ZERO list.

The ZERO certificates were regularly issued to scores of foreign movies, (more than 200 are in this list), from 1934 til at least 1948. For obvious reasons, the vast majority of these are British (3 are Hitchcock films), but there’s also some movies from countries like Italy, Switzerland, Mexico and probably others. Finally, there were a handful of U.S. documentaries and other similar rarities that received ZERO numbers.

However, I’ve come to the conclusion that at some point around the year 1948, this policy changed as foreign movies started to receive regularly non-ZERO “normal” certificates, and therefore practically disappeared from the ZERO “ghetto”. From there, (the latest of the late-40s movie in the list is #04733) until 1968, there’s only the odd isolated British movie in 1955 and a U.S. Roger Corman movie in 1967, and everything indicates that the remaining of the ZERO list (1948-1968) is composed almost exclusively of short films, overwhelmingly of the cartoony kind.

The way the list is organized is simple: NUMBER-TITLE-DIRECTOR. If you don’t like it, make your own. The “S” denotes “Short”, those without an “S” are movies. Five question marks denote unknown directors (on IMDb) or dubious numbers.

On a personal viewing perspective, I’ve seen only 12 of these, all movies. I have the whole Popeye series on my watchlist on HBOMAX, so when/if I get around to it, I’ll be able to check a few hundred more.

I'm working my way through the year 1992. Currently working on the R rated films when I came across the Jean Claude Van Damme movie "Nowhere To Run". Filmratings and IMDB both have it listed as #29997. That doesn't seem right. A number like that should have been assigned to a film released in 1989 or 1990, not one that was released in January 1993. I tried to see if it was available to stream anywhere that I had access to but it's not on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Tubi. So I checked AFI and they have it listed with the number #31741, which seems more correct.

I checked my list and I also have it listed as #31741. I don't remember where or when I got this number. So I decided to check your list @"Movieman53000" to see what you had for both of those entries. I was hoping that maybe you had something else for either of those entries but you don't. You have #29997 and #31741 assigned to "Nowhere To Run". I'm going to keep the entry for #31741 assigned to "Nowhere To Run" because it seems more logical that that is the correct number. However, I will add in parenthesis that filmratings has it listed as #29997.

When it comes to MPA numbers, some have discrepancies/conflicts like that, as we know. We don't know which one is more correct, either 29997 or 31741. And yes, #29997 should've been assigned to some 1989 or 1990 films. I color coded the numbers which are dependent on sources (for example, if it's in the credits and AFI, it's colored white, while in FilmRatings, green). If FilmRatings is more reliable than other sources, I would rely on that source where almost all are correct.

I just checked the credits of that film, it's indeed #31741.

Normally for "older" films I tend to trust the number listed on filmratings. I've come across more than my share of numbers listed in the end credits that were incorrect because they were assigned to multiple films. In a case such as this, however, where the number on filmratings clearly seems illogically incorrect, I am more likely to believe the number listed during the end credits. The fact that #31741 doesn't appear to have been assigned to another film, as per the filmratings website, just helps cement the possibility that #31741 is in fact the correct number for this film.

I do not know where I got #29997 for Nowhere to run. Both FilmRatings & AFI Has it listed as #31741. It also appears in the credits. It's very rare that the Number in the credits is Incorrect. AFI is Unreliable mainly for fact that most of the Numbers are not listed & the Fact there are a lot movies not listed. If the People at AFI will get their butts in gear & do what they set out to do. We can complete this list. At this Pace it will Take AFI another 25 Years to complete the Catalogue. Any Number listed on AFI is likely correct. They preview the Films & put what they see on screen in the their database. from what can tell AFI does not list more than 1 number if a Movie has Multiple Numbers. A good Example of this is Superman #25403 but it has a second #37654 (Special Edition) However FilmRatings Usually lists both.

I Also done some searches

Nowhere to Run (1989) #29650 AKA Temptation Blues
Across the Tracks (1991) #30224 AKA Nowhere To Run (R ) #31209 (PG-13)

I do not know where #29997 came from. It's likely 100% incorrect. I may gotten it off that list that has not been updated in 13 Years

You might want to check filmratings again because they have Nowhere To Run listed with #29997.

I don't know where you're searching because filmratings doesn't have an alternate title listed for Across The Tracks.

IMDB has Across the Tracks Listed with Alternate title of Nowhere to Run. I Have IMDBPro so I have a lot more info than what you see on the Normal IMDB site.

I can assume that the numbers in AFI came from the credits of some films they examined, if not from the original MPA files. About that site, I was thinking the same thing. It's unreliable on most part because not all films are included, think less than 40% of nearly 22,000 PCA numbers are listed there. And don't forget that there are few films that have the same number, for example, two films that assigned #17584.

If they managed to get their act together, we can make the list 100% complete at some point in the future.

Just found a double listing on filmratings. They have the movies The Kindred and Best Seller both listed as #28242. IMDB also has both numbers listed with the same number. AFI, however, Best Seller listed as #28242 and The Kindred as #28342. I don't have anything listed for #28342 so I'm going to assume, for the time being, that AFI's listings are correct.

Here is another one That is Listed with the Wong Release Year

The Magnificent Butcher (1979) #39732 Listed with Year (2003) It may have another Number. It's Not Listed on AFI. Need to if you can find somewhere to see if has a original release Number. It may or may not have another Number. It was released in Hong Kong in Dec 1979

Clock Cleaners (short) (1937) Mickey Mouse Short Re-Release #28218 Need to if you can find Original Number. Will likely be a very low Number likely under 1000 but likely no higher than 3000. Just Guessing

There is an original number at the bottom of the logo in the short's opening title, but it's unreadable. In the newer print, no number but just logo.

Do you have any way to magnify it?

It seems there is no way to magnify it. See the picture and what it looks like (at the bottom of the logo).

This is from the opening title of Clock Cleaners (1937).

About the double listing, The Kindred is assigned a wrong number which is taken by Best Seller (1987), it must be a typo. So AFI and the film's credits got it right.

I've gone through the year 1978, rated G part, there is an error assigned to Space Cruiser Yamato, which is #52,532. It should be in the 25,000 range, and it didn't hit 52,532 until the 2611th weekly rating bulletin in 2020.

Space Cruiser Yamato #52532 is a Re-Issue #25532. It also could be error as you said with the first 2 numbers in reverse, However #25532 belongs to Circle of Iron. Space Cruiser is listed on IMDB with this number it may be incorrect. The Alternate title for space Cruiser is Space Battleship Yamato. It was released in Japan in August 1977. It may not have a number it could be like others I posted. Just another Movie from Japan issued a number

@"MPAA Challenger" a page back you posted an extraordinarily long list.  I added spoiler tags to it.  Please do the same in the future so people don't have to scroll past it if they aren't interested.
