Star Wars - The Final Order by Spence

Quick note on one of the items you mentioned @Andreas

"8. In the cave, after Rey heals the snake, I would've added the line "Luke" instead of "You would've done the same" when Rey is talking to BB-8. This would flow as if Rey would mention Luke's name as to why she knows about this force healing. Would also strengthen Rey's time with Luke on Ach-To and the importance to their relationship. It just crossed my mind. Also, the line "You would've done the same" serves no purpose, so it would be no loss at all."

This line actually does serves a purpose, though it's a subtle one, and maybe not as successful as it could've been. After she says "You would've done the same" to BB-8, he actually does exactly that, giving a spark of life to D-O to awaken him. I actually think it's a nice little bit, which is why I haven't changed it, though I do also like the idea of her bringing up Luke.

I've only watched v1, but I have a comment about a few tangential things.
First, less importantly, "Captain" Hux, and second, Ben's ghost.

I know that changing the canon is kind of this edit's thing :), but these are the few moments not related to the edit's premise that still irk me because either they feel fanedity, or because I believe that the canon may go in a slightly different direction on the latter one, while the comped-in ghost kind of supposes a finality to all that which does not much help it feel satisfying, as Ben dying was never satisfying, unlike Anakin in ROTJ.

Hal's edit is surely monumental, however, I do feel that a few of these borrowed changes are just not necessary. I'm curious as to whether I'm the outlier on this.

What is the issue with Hux you're referring to?

Oh, just Hal's demotion of Hux in the head-on-table meeting! I understand that was to strengthen Hux's motivation, but I think it still sounds edited and not entirely necessary to me anyway, since he is obviously sidelined anyway. I don't intend on dying on this hill though, by any means, unlike that other hill :D

I forgot that was even a HAL change. I've seen that edit more times than I've seen the theatrical version!

It's not something I'm terribly bothered by.

I like the Ben force ghost personally. It felt odd to me that he wasn't there to begin with.

I absolutely love rendering something for 4 hours then finding one single flash frame and having to render it all over again.

Anyway, V2 is just about ready. I'll try and have it up Monday.

The differences:
-Added a short title card for V2 so you know which version you're watching.
- The little bit of the old crawl that was still barely visible has been removed.
- Palpatine's explanation of spirit transfer is returned to the end of the movie where it was originally. Both major emperor scenes now have a bit more meat on the bones as this change allowed me to make the changes smoother and retain more shots/dialogue.
- The Leia death scene now has different music and ambient sound, and the Leia footage has been brightened to match the Rey footage.
- Multiple video and audio transitions have been smoothed or completely reworked.
- Audio has been improved for Kylo's dialogue replacement, and I added a new line as he disappears.
- The initial reaction to Hux's spy reveal has been reinserted, but shortened a little for pacing.
-Rey no longer says she's going to find Palpatine and destroy him. Her reaction to the Sith whispers triggers BB-8 and Finn to respond.
- Transition from Ben on the Death Star to Rey burning the tie fighter had been lengthened so it's less abrupt.
- Added a new shot of Rey when Luke sits next to her to fix the incorrect eyeline.

The big improvements here are the better audio editing and the new score for Leia's death scene, but I made a ton of tiny little adjustments as I went back through it.

I'm much happier with this version and barring some new revelatory idea that will improve the whole thing, I'm ready to move on to new projects. So V2 is most likely gonna be the final version.

If you're curious, next up is either Uncharted or Miami Vice.

I've really liked some of your other edits and I find the idea of the Ray Nobody to be interesting.

What edits of the other two movies do you think would pair best with this edit? I want to do a watch of this trilogy at the end of June with some friends so I'm gathering a set of fanedits as we've all seen the originals enough times.

Honestly, it works with the theatrical fine, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work with the HAL9000 edits. Nothing directly contradicts the previous films. If anything it's more thematically inline with them.

Side note to the above: I actually really enjoy the theatrical versions of TFA and TLJ and this edit was more less intended to pair up with those. That's my preferred trilogy. But it also works with HAL900 edits and I would assume Starlight.

I'm sure someone else will do it eventually, and probably very well!
I can't imagine who will be the first to implement these ideas into a TRoS fan edit. It's going to require extensive VFX work and compositing.

There are a few lines/shots I would trim from TFA, and I think the entire casino plot line could be cut from TLJ but otherwise I really liked the theatrical versions of both. TROS on the other hand...

That was kind of the idea with this edit. I'm not much a of a ST hater, in fact I'd take TFA and TLJ over any of the prequels any day of the week. I just hated that there was not narrative/character payoff to what those films built int TROS.

To be honest, doing this edit kind of opened my eyes to the fact that there's a lot of good stuff in TROS, it just never really comes together as a whole. It's like the anti-ROTJ. ROTJ ends up working despite itself, it's more than the sum of it's parts. TROS has tons of great stuff in it and manages to make none of it work together.

Absolutely stunning! Left a review. The conclusion to an extremely uneven Trilogy now feels at least the best it could be without new material (though that puppet show bit was inspired and seamlessly enclosed within the film). This was the editing job I thought could not be done (And I once made "Wild Wild West: Bearable Edition"). Top marks Spencer.

Thank you! It's worth noting that a lot of the additions and effects were pulled from a variety of other projects, though the overall concept of this edit is my own. So I can't take credit for things like the puppet show except for the decision to use them.

Of course. And I should have mentioned that. Everyone's contributions were excellent!
