Star Wars Episode 4-6 Despecialized Editions by Harmy

Looks like I conflated two different pieces of news. Apologies for that.

On the one hand, Harmy has joined Nanotech 4K.

On the other, Reliance Media has been working on a 4K of the unaltered trilogy for a future release:

This is a reconstruction of the 1983 theatrical version of Return of the Jedi. The original shots were painstakingly restored using various sources and the film received an extensive shot by shot colour correction based on a fade free 1983 LPP Print. ROTJ v2.5 is pretty much completely despecialized, apart from a couple of wipes, which were recomposited optically in 1997 and look nearly identical to the originals, so for all intents and purposes this is the original version.


The remastered version (v2.5) represents a significant improvement in picture quality over the earlier 1.0 version due to the use of better encoding and higher quality sources and replacing many of the despecialized shots with higher quality ones."

ROTJ easily suffered the most from the 2004/11 Special Editons with whole scenes missing and the worst of all changes. Finally we get to see it back to it's former glory! :)

The Despecialized trilogy as a whole was elevated by an order of magnitude today. ROTJ has never looked this good on video.
 
Great news that version 2.7 of the despecialized edition of Star Wars was released for May 4th.

The color improvements over the 2.5 version look astoundingly good!

I'll get to work on an updated bluray for this one asap :)

This reminds me to get to work on Empire and Jedi too...

I did wonder about the colouring of some of those shots (Especially shot 5) when I watched version 2.5 but I put it down to Harmy faithfully recreating mistimed colours from the original film. Glad to see he's always improving this thing. Thanks so much Harmy!
 
Yes, the colors did look over-saturated in v2.5, but I just assumed that was the look in the original Star Wars. Apparently Harmy was using a 'raw' print, which had not been color graded properly, as his reference point, hence the mixed up colors, which have been largely fixed in this new version.

The color correction done was mainly to get rid of a lot of the overly green hues which were the result of mistimed technicolor prints. Some of the saturation has been adjusted here but not a lot because it's still based on technicolor prints.

Worth noting too that 2.7 was done by OT.com user towne32, and he didn't just color correct, he also replaced a lot of the material from the 2006 DVD with teamnegative_1's "Silver Screen" 35mm print scan.
