Trailer

Motivations & Goals

Right after watching The Rise of Skywalker for the first time, I couldn’t help but feel unsatisfied with the sequel trilogy as a whole. Having The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi also fresh on my mind, I saw the potential for a fanedit within this amazing collection of footage and I knew there was a movie in there that more closely resembled the Star Wars movie I wanted to see. And so, I set out to combine all 3 movies into one with a much more streamlined and focused story. Knowing the script and dialogue would dramatically limit any serious changes, very early on I decided to employ the same approach as the prequel trilogy The Blackened Mantle by Darth Lunar, which utilized the Japanese dubs and rewrote all of the English subtitles (unfortunately, this requires that you don’t understand spoken Japanese). Ultimately, my intention was to produce a darker, more serious movie that focuses on the connection between Rey and Kylo and their uncertain relationship to the Jedi and the Force. I also wanted this fanedit to stand as a narrative conclusion for the Skywalker family, depicting the end of Luke, Leia and Kylo. Thus, the title End of Skywalker.

The runtime for this fanedit is 116 minutes.

Below is the opening text that sets the stage for the beginning of End of Skywalker.

Opening Text

30 YEARS AFTER THE BATTLE OF ENDOR, THE NEW REPUBLIC CONTINUES TO REBUILD WHAT THE EMPIRE DESTROYED. BUT GROWING DARK FORCES THREATEN THE GALAXY...

THE SKYWALKER JEDI TEMPLE HAS BEEN RAZED BY FOLLOWERS OF A SITH SORCERER, AMONG THEM THE ONLY CHILD OF LEIA ORGANA AND HAN SOLO WHO NOW DONS THE NAME KYLO REN.

LEIA AND LUKE SKYWALKER HAVE PUT THEIR HOPES IN REY, THE ONLY SURVIVING JEDI APPRENTICE, TO CONFRONT THE COMING STORM.

FROM THE ASHES OF THE EMPIRE, THE IMPERIAL FIRST ORDER HAVE SECRETLY CONSTRUCTED AN UNSTABLE NEW SUPERWEAPON WITH THE POWER TO SHATTER EVERYTHING THE REBELLION FOUGHT FOR.

Edit/Cut List

  • Only a very limited amount of TFA footage is used including Starkiller base firing and destroying New Republic planets, Rey flying to Ahch-To and meeting Luke and a very brief shot of Kylo killing Han.
  • Most of the footage from TLJ and TRoS has been cut. In general, scenes and shots that focus on characters other than Rey, Kylo and Luke (such as Finn, Poe and Rose) have been removed.
  • Significant restructuring and reordering of a number of scenes but generally footage from TLJ takes up approximately the first 60% of the movie and the final 40% is TRoS footage.
TLJ Edits/Cuts
  • Luke throwing lightsaber cut.
  • Luke drinking milk cut.
  • Shots of porgs have been minimized and mostly cut.
  • Scene with Yoda on Ahch-To cut.
  • Finn and Rose's secret mission, including the casino town, cut.
  • When the Resistance ship's bridge is destroyed and Leia is pulled out into space, she is described as having died and is not seen again.
  • Kylo destroys his mask in the lift after returning from the attack on Leia's ship and his mask is not seen again.
  • Admiral Holdo's kamikaze maneuver cut.
  • On the surface of Crait, as we look out from the blast doors, the First Order ships flying towards the base have been removed.
  • Shot of soldier licking salt on the surface of Crait cut.
  • Much of the conversation between speeder pilots on the surface of Crait cut.
  • Kiss between Rose and Finn cut.
  • No shots of Han's dice when Luke appears on Crait.
  • Rey's confrontation with Snoke in his throne room and Snoke's death now takes place after the battle of Crait.
  • When Rey looks into the "looking glass" in Snoke's throne room, visions of the Emperor on Exegol appear on screen.
  • After the struggle over Luke's lightsaber resulting in an explosion, the next scene is of General Hux discovering what has happened to Snoke.
TRoS Edits/Cuts
  • Shots of Kylo cut from Rey's forest training sequence.
  • Shots of Rey’s parents and Ochi the Jedi hunter cut.
  • Mission to find the Sith Dagger cut.
  • Shots and references of the wayfinders have been cut, except for the one in the Emperor's throne room which is now referred to as a Sith holocron.
  • When Rey touches the Emperor’s wayfinder, visions of Exegol appear.
  • Journeys to Pasaana and Kijimi cut.
  • Mission to rescue Chewie cut.
  • Rey on rough waters on a boat cut.
  • Shots of Finn during the lightsaber battle between Rey and Kylo cut.
  • Brief shots of Luke and Leia lightsaber training in the forest while wearing blast shields over their faces are inter-cut during the battle between Rey and Kylo.
  • Footage of Leia cut when Kylo is about to strike a finishing blow to Rey with his lightsaber and he hears the voice of Leia say "Ben".
  • Poe’s & Finn’s speech before the Resistance fleet takes off from the jungle planet has been removed and the footage of the ships preparing to depart has been turned into a montage with music overtop.
  • Lando has been completely cut and the shot of him flying in the opposite direction of the fleet in the Falcon cut.
  • Shots of Snoke clones cut.
  • Kylo shrugging after receiving Rey's lightsaber through the Force cut.
  • Shot of countless Resistance ships arriving cut along with most wide shots showing the size of the Emperor's fleet.
  • Kiss between Rey and Kylo cut.
  • Rey sliding down sand on Tatooine cut.
  • Scene of Rey speaking with the local old lady on Tatooine cut.
  • New music used when Rey wraps up the Skywalker lightsabers and buries them in the sand.

Hi @"inlucent". Welcome to the community. Your project sounds really interesting, in actual fact you were given a shout out a few days ago by another forum member who was praising your approach with this project vis-à-vis your novel use of subtitles. With that said since you're new here you will want to familiarise yourself with the forum rules. Sharing download links in the forum is not allowed. You can remove the link by editing your post. Good to see you here, I was the one who mentioned this edit in the Rise of Skywalker idea thread. I watched your edit and thought it was a very interesting take. Foreign dub edits can be a nice alternate way of altering a narrative without tripping up on continuity, provided you give them a basic way of understanding what's going on through the 'subtitles', my only issue with that is that not everyone who is fluent in those languages is going to necessarily 'get' the joke and might be even more confused, rofl.

My appologies! I should have gone through the rules more closely and I will read through the FAQ as well. I'll make sure I don't break the rules again!

@inlucent I see that you have another ITW thread for this project. The duplicate threads have been merged.
In the FAQ there is a link to the First Time Fanedit Submission. You will need to ultimately produce a cut list if you intend to submit the edit to IFDB. Also, as one who does reviews, I regularly request edit lists to help me in the review process. It's also a good idea to post some examples of your editing before submitting so you can get feedback. It may help with getting it reviewed more quickly as well.

Hi, I just wanted to mention that I have given my first post a big update! After getting some encouragement and motivation from @ArtisDead, I've created a poster, trailer, an edit/cut list and a more extensive write-up overall describing End of Skywalker. I hope you enjoy!!

Glad you like what you see so far!! The Blackened Mantle is fantastic and was my first real introduction to the world of fanedits. I wouldn't have made EoS without having seen The Blackened Mantle and borrowing the idea of using the Japanese audio.

@AspiringFanEditEnjoyer provided a very thorough early preview on this edit and brought it to my attention. They found the idea that it was a straight up action sequel trilogy edit presented like The Blackened Mantle very interesting. Months later, @INIGHTMARES and I both viewed it and concurred on several things that needed to be corrected based on our subjective opinions. The editor corrected most of the problems and stood their ground on several narrative suggestions that we had.

I don't see that as a reason to not approve this edit. It's not without its flaws but it is very interesting to say the least.

Edit: Major Correction. It was actually @AspiringFanEditEnjoyer who brought this edit to my attention and provided a very thorough first look preview.

Thank you @AspiringFanEditEnjoyer and @INIGHTMARES for your valuable feedback!

Congratulations, @inlucent this edit is approved and you are a faneditor, officially. Now show us what else you've got!

Thanks so much @ArtisDead as well as @ranger 613 and @INIGHTMARES ! I really appreciate your time and feedback! We may have debated some of my choices, but you guys certainly helped me improve this edit and pushed me to make the best version of End of Skywalker. I recognize it's not perfect, but I do feel I've transformed the sequel trilogy into an experience that significantly improves upon the original movies, or at least least offers something unique that highlights many of the coolest moments from those movies. I hope others can enjoy this fanedit far into the future. Thanks again!! 😄

Hi ! I have never heard about this concept of rewriting story thanks to "subtitles" by using a foregner dub, sound brilliant and a great trick to enhance the narrative to further extend. A very promising project ! Oh, and i found your poster ABSOLUTELY gorgeous !!

Thanks so much for the compliment, @Koregan ! I think I spent more time on the poster than the trailer. 🤭 And you can thank The Blackened Mantle for the idea for this concept. ;) I hope you get to watch and enjoy this fanedit!

I finally got around to watching this. While I don't agree with all of your narrative decisions, this was very well done. The Idea to use Japanese dubs and subtitles to change the narrative is inspired.
