I am trying to Render a 1080p movie in Sony Vegas is that 2.5 hrs and I keep getting files that are like 150+ GB (saving as both wmv and avi) ....... am I doing something wrong?

Would love some suggestions!

It sounds like you are saving them in an uncompressed or compressed lossless format. It is hard to advise because I don't know what codecs you have installed, but with AVI rendering, go into custom configuration and look for something called xvid - mpeg4. You may want to do a little research to determine the most appropriate xvid configuration settings.
