Shortened Editions exist too?

Just curious if there's a section shortened editions? I feel like too many movies are 2+ hours :p
 
Don't most fanedits that aren't extended editions automatically come under that category? The nature of fanediting means cutting material, more often than not.
 
I guess OP means edits that have as a specific goal getting a shorter movie, as opposed to that being a consequence of the removal of certain elements of the narrative? As in, edits that exist specifically to improve the pacing?
 
The difference with an "extended edition" is that improving the film, or making it play differently (like a fanedit or fanmix) isn't necessarily a goal of the exercise, it can simply be to add the deleted scenes back in regardless of how it effects the movie (usually the goal is to add all the scenes back in). There are fanedits and fanmxes that use deleted scenes that are longer than, or the same length, as the original film but don't have to be classified as "extended editions" e.g.



Rocketman: Diamond Edition
 
The edit that is not extended is usually shortened...
