Return of the Jedi - The Spence Edit

havent quite figured out how to make the rebels look like theyre ambushing the troopers. any sugestions?

If you had enough patience you could pull a Darth Editous and digitally erase Ewoks from some really crucial shots. And what about the end scene? I'm imagining you cutting from Luke burning his father's body (wide shot), to the three "ghost" Jedi's looking on, once more to the wide shot of the bonfire, then back to them, and back to the wide shot as it pans up to the sky, then cut (or wipe) to credits. Music edits? Your choice. Young Anakin or original Anakin? Your choice. I'm just thinking out loud.

your ending is very similair to what im working with right now. It'll closely resemble that.

Yes, an ending like this - focussing on the 'jedi' instead of the celebration would be great I think.

But after the destruction of the death star...do we get to see our other rebel friends? I mean. the celebration is not usebable because of the ewoks, but are there some shots usable to have them intercut with the funeral pyre (in slow-mo/different colouring or something like that). You know, the give the idea that Luke is seeing/thinking of his friends celebrating but that he is alone with the curse/blessing of his powers blabla. (Sorry about my poor explanation...hope you guys get what I mean.) So, a kinda sad ending focussing on Luke that still ends with a smile from him seeing Anakin next to Yoda & Ben.....

ps I vote for old Old Anakin....let mr. Shaw have his credit please

To be honest I don't think the film needs ALL of the ewok scenes removed. just the final assault and their part in it.
But as a project it's a lot of work.
You might jsut want to try completely altering the events on Endor to better suit your idea. i.e. make only 1 assault on the groundbase but cut it to make it seem more difficult.

removing the ewoks isnt giving me any issues at all except for the ending celebration. It's not been that difficult and I'd rather they just didn't exist at all.

yeah its working surprisingly well. I've got that weird transition figured out, i just gotta get it working smoothly.

I must say I'm really looking forward to this. I've never seen the point in editing Ep IV & V but I can see the sense in editing Ep VI as I really liked the dark parts of Jedi but the Ewoks grated me no end. My fingers are crossed for you spence I really hope you pull it off.

Me too Boon, I thin what seperates this from the legion, "improved" versions of the films is that Spence has tried to really change the film drastically, most changes are people who want to restore pre-Special Edition visuals or sound or attempt to make small tonal changes to make everything run smoother.

To successfully remove what most people would deem an integral part of the movie, and improve it is something that fan editors should aspire towards.

I'm very intrigued.

I guess all I wanted to do was say this sounds really awesome.

Fanedits of the OT are always really cool cause you can keep in the unobtrusive CGI improvements. I realized awhile ago that I really like Jedi, except the way it gets boring and touchy feeley and cheesy after Jabba's palace, and part of it is the ewoks. Awesome idea. Revenge of the Jedi would be a cool title, and it would express the darker tone you're going for. Have you thought of making any other changes just for the hell of it? I believe before Jedi, all we had were a bunch of blue lightsabers and one red one...maybe this could be kept consistent!

I dont mind the ewoks at all, i think they are darker in a way that most people dont realize, kinda! They try to cook evrybody! Even Hannible lector didnt throw a human barbecue party!

However i do like the sound of what your doing. Sounds tricky though.

Can you maybe edit the part where everyone is captured and surrounded by the bunker, into a shot where "han says wait i got an idea" then you see the Scout walker pilot talking on his walky talky?

Will you be changing the end celebration scene MUSIC ? Thats the only part that really annoys me. Pan pipe moods is not my idea of hard hitting emotional star wars music. Needs more power added, maybe add Yoda on dagobah music where Luke takes off in his xwing?
