Recommendation for blu ray disc drive?

I’m a new faneditor, and am researching buying a blu ray drive in order to rip films for editing. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good USB blu ray drive that’s reasonably priced? (i.e., less than $100?)

Thanks!

I bought a bluray drive that had been taken out of a laptop. I then bought a cable that connects it and powers it via USB. This seemed to be the lowest cost way at the time. (last year) It's not as if I use it all that much so it only matters that it works.

Hmm! Interesting. Nice ingenuity.

I'd check the MakeMKV site, since I assume you're going to want to flash the firmware on the drive, and they have a compatibility list and other details on why you need to flash the drive. (that's the program most people use, although I think there are other options if you prefer)

One other aspect that may or may not be important to you is UHD (4k disc) compatibility. I don't have a USB drive but I bought one that supports UHD discs, but it isn't the best at ripping them, it's reliable for normal blurays but can sometimes take a couple tries to get through a UHD disc. Not sure if that's common with all drives, I assume some are better at it than others.
