Seeking advice on which sequence preset in CS6 to use for a 1080p editing project from mainly bluray 23.976 sources.

I'm a bit out of practice - not sure which of these is the right one:

Drag your footage into the sequence timeline, Premiere should prompt you with the option "change sequence settings". This will match the sequence to your footage settings.

Doing that ^ will also by default create a stereo master audio track on the sequence. Assuming you're working with films on Blu-ray you want to create a sequence manually so you can retain 5.1 surround.

Select AVCHD 1080p24 so you're looking at full HD at film frame rate, make sure it's the real film frame rate 23.976, not literally 24.000, make sure pixel aspect ratio is 1:1 square. Make sure the width is 1920, if the pixel aspect ratio wasn't already square then the width may be set to 1440 so check and fix if needed. Then go to the audio tab and switch the master track to be surround, and your sequence is ready.

Now drop in footage.

It doesn't for me, unless i'm misunderstanding something. All the channels are inserted into separate tracks automatically.

If the master track is stereo it will let you import and edit, but will not export true surround. If you try to choose surround while exporting it'll look like it's working, but if you load the resultant audio into an audio editor you'll see the channels all got squished into stereo, then that got spread out/duplicated across six files.

Oh, that's unfortunate. I have a stereo setup so i wouldn't pick up on the lack of surround sound during playback.

It's easy to fix if you've put a lot of time into a project and don't want to redo it, manually create a new sequence in the same project, set it up with surround master audio, then select all and copy everything from the old sequence and paste into the new, all work is retained and can now be exported correctly from the new one.

Thankyou both. I see both methods work, notwithstanding the audio tracks issue.
