Need help getting DVD caps

I'm trying to get some captures from Casino Royale for the insert I'm making, but PrintScrn is producing less than desireable results. Does anyone know of any good programs (that are...free...) to take screen caps?

I am always using virtualdub.

But do I have to rip the DVD to get the caps? Or just insert and capture away?

I always use the ripepd DVDs for that.

try the GIMP.... gnu image manipulation program..... is like photoshop.. .but is open source and free. i don't think i've tried it like that... but i know it will take screen shots of single windows, or your entire screen....

is a pretty top-rate image program... does take a little work to get to know, though.
oh, and just so you know... go to "file > acquire > screenshot" for what you want to do.... and it will give you the choice of a single window or the whole screen.

I actually have the GIMP, so I'll ahve to try that out...

media player classic can do it. its freeware, and you don't have to rip the DVD to the hard drive. sometimes the caps arent the greatest, but its a free stand alone, so you might want to give it a try.
