I must defer to the wisdom of my peers on this matter. I'm not sure exactly how to even refer to this, but what I want to do is make it so that you can turn on a bonus feature that will cause a small image to pop up at certain scenes during the movie. Clicking on this image will result in either text or audio commentary playing during the scene.

I don't have enough to say to talk for 3 straight hours on a separate commentary track, and I don't want to take up too much disc space with this bonus feature, but I thought people might be interested in a little explanation for some of the narrative restructuring that I am doing in my current edit.

I have seen this done in a few fanedits but have never tried myself. I am all ears if anybody has any advice on the best way to do this??

(I know the Phantom Editor was one who did this with Attack of the Phantom).

Not sure what software you use to make the DVD, but you can make a button pop up during the main movie in DVD Architect.

you could also do a subtitle track which would be pretty straightforward to accomplish

DVDLabPro can do that. I think they call it the "Follow the White Rabbit" feature....the irony! Lol. :)

Yeah, this is probably the best route to go. Easy to do. Plus it could end up being quite tricky to pull off the invisible buttons popping up throughout.

Lol.

DVDLabPro doesn't do bluray so I can't use that, but it sounds like there is a chance for DVD Architect. If I can't figure out how to do it in there, I guess I will go the subtitle route. That is uncharted territory for me as well, but "how hard can it be?" Gemini asks with a knowing grin.
