BRILLIANT! You reject your own nose because it represents the glitter of commercialism. Why didn't I think of that?

Hopefully not too late for Christmas!

An extended cut of Ron Howard's Suess adaptation, of which Mike Myer's Cat in the Hat would later be cut from the same rotten cloth.

The film has been airing for years and years on ABC/Freeform as apart of the 25 days of Christmas, with 10 additional scenes, adding roughly 13 minutes of footage. Some of this stuff on the DVD/Blu-Ray, and some scenes not.

The main subplot added back was the whole lighting contest, which just fell by the wayside in the theatrical cut and forgotten. A bunch of other bits and pieces have been reinstated from the TV cut too, but nothing as critical as the lighting stuff.

2 TV airings have been combined to remove the station logos, a 4:3 airing from 2009 and a more recent 16:9 airing. Neither are HD, so they needed some gentle upscaling and colour work to look decent next to each other, and the Blu-Ray.

I've also done a 2nd version of this edit, using the DVD scenes that don't appear in the TV Cut, but they are in much rougher condition than this. Horribly pixelated and crushed down. Upscaling could only do so much, so it still doesn't look amazing.

Happy Holidays!

Are you saying there's an extended version of The Cat in the Hat out there? 😱

No, I'm saying that the Cat in the Hat was made similarly to the Grinch.

Bad adaptation, misplaced adult humour, solid casting for the lead, bad pacing and strenuous plot extensions not in the book.

Ah.

Well, this should be a decent watch for Christmas. And a fine addition to my Plex library.

Couldn't find an IFDB page for the cut so i'll just drop a short review here. I hope that's okay.

Finished watching the TV+DVD version. Everything remains narratively coherent, and the visual editing is flawless from what i can tell. Since this cut is solely just an extended version of the original film, I can't find a fair way to convey how i feel about the cut as a whole. How you feel about the original film heavily dictates how you will feel about this cut. And there's nothing wrong with that. I did enjoy it to be clear, as someone who grew up with the original film.

Only gripe is the audio. A few of the deleted scenes either have the channels imbalanced (usually leaning towards the left channel), or a fluctuating audio volume. Hope these can be addressed, they're very difficult to ignore.

Fantastic edit, as to be expected! 😁 My folks and I just watched it today! All that needs work is a few sound inconsistencies with the deleted scenes. Very well done!

A late mini-podcast about the edit!

As I've gotten a new UHD Blu-Ray Drive, I've been able to update this edit using the 4k release of the film. This won't be in 4k, as the deleted scenes aren't 4k, but this will just be 1080p as based on the 4k disc. Take a shot everytime I said 4k!

The 4k master is just so much more vibrant and less foggy and grey, so colour-wise, it's far superior.

Everything has been rebuilt and redone from the ground up, so hopefully this will be the best way to watch the film! Should be uploaded soon!
